ABOUT ARDC

The Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission (ARDC) serves the Supreme Court of Illinois in regulating the legal profession. Our work is grounded in integrity, accountability, and public trust. We maintain high professional standards while fostering a respectful, mission-driven workplace.

Under the direction of the Court, ARDC registers and supports attorneys, delivers education and outreach, and administers a fair disciplinary process. Our role is both regulatory and restorative—ensuring accountability while upholding the integrity of the profession.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Litigation Group Manager provides leadership, direction, and oversight for a designated litigation team responsible for carrying out the ARDC's mission to preserve and advance the integrity of the legal profession through attorney registration and education, public outreach, restorative services, and, when necessary, attorney discipline.

The Litigation Group Manager is responsible for developing and supporting team members, ensuring the effective and efficient handling of disciplinary matters, implementing organizational priorities, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and service. The position serves as a strategic leader within the organization, helping to guide staff through change, identify opportunities for innovation, and support the achievement of ARDC's strategic goals.

REQUIREMENTS

J.D. degree from an ABA - accredited law school and an active member of the bar in good standing
Active Illinois bar license (or eligibility to obtain admission promptly)
Minimum of 10 years of increasing responsibility in the practice of law
Demonstrated record of at least five years of progressive leadership experience leading high-performing legal teams and driving organizational results
Strong legal research, analytical, problem-solving, and writing skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse groups of people
Highly organized with strong attention to detail, and excellent project and time management skills
Eagerness to learn about new areas of the law and apply knowledge to unique facts
Proven ability to independently manage a high volume and varied workload while maintaining a service-oriented attitude
Commitment to ARDC’s mission and values

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Management

Lead, develop, and support a multidisciplinary team of attorneys, investigators, paralegals, and administrative staff.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing work environment that reflects ARDC's mission, values, and strategic priorities.
Coach, mentor, and develop team members to support professional growth, engagement, and performance.
Establish clear expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
Promote accountability while encouraging innovation, problem-solving, and continuous learning.
Lead team members through organizational, procedural, and technological changes by effectively communicating the purpose, impact, and benefits of change initiatives.

Operations and Case Management

Oversee the assignment, management, and resolution of matters within the litigation group.
Monitor workloads, performance metrics, and case progress to ensure timely, effective, and consistent outcomes.
Ensure compliance with applicable rules, policies, procedures, and professional standards.
Identify operational challenges and implement solutions that improve efficiency, quality, and service delivery.
Utilize data and performance measures to inform decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.

Strategic Leadership

Implement policies, initiatives, and directives of the Commission and Administrator.
Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of organizational policies, programs, and strategic initiatives.
Contribute to the advancement of ARDC's strategic plan by identifying opportunities to enhance services, improve processes, and strengthen organizational effectiveness.
Collaborate with managers and leaders across the organization to address emerging issues, share best practices, and support enterprise-wide goals.

Litigation and Legal Representation

Investigate and prosecute selected disciplinary matters.
Represent the Administrator in proceedings before the Hearing and Review Boards, the Illinois Supreme Court, state and federal courts, and administrative agencies.
Provide legal analysis and recommendations regarding disciplinary matters and related issues.
Respond to inquiries regarding the status and disposition of matters, as appropriate.

Education and Outreach

Participate in professional, public, and legal education programs.
Serve as a resource regarding attorney regulation, professional responsibility, and ARDC programs and services.
Support efforts to educate lawyers and the public regarding ethical obligations, regulatory requirements, and available ARDC resources.
