Full Job Description

REVENUE CYCLE SPECIALIST

Position: Revenue Cycle Specialist

Reports to: Revenue Cycle Supervisor

Job Summary: Post daily charges and payments for all areas of Chicago Hand and Orthopedic Surgery Centers, S.C. Performs in-house collections duties for overdue account balances. Monitors aged outstanding claims and aged accounts receivables report.

Educational Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent experience required
College Education preferred

Qualification and Experience:

Working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, Managed care, HMO’s, Workers Compensation, Auto and Commercial insurance.
Basic knowledge of CPT, ICD 10 coding for Hand and Orthopedic practice.
Proven understanding of Explanation of Benefits, HCFA, UB, and insurance filing process.
Knowledge of eClinicalWorks (eCW), Insurance Carrier Websites and Medical Management websites, etc.
Google and Microsoft applications
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities:

Post daily encounters, review CPT codes for accuracy and attach correct ICD-10 codes to corresponding charge.
Review Financial Accountability Report; Review the doctors schedule for the next business day. Complete the form on google docs, and share with appropriate staff.
Assist with authorizations.
Verify that New Patient demographics are accurate. Assist with posting lock-box payments, medical record payments, VCC payments and EFT’s. Any amounts that cannot be posted in EMR, notify the revenue cycle supervisor. Work zero EOB’s and assorted AR reports.
Use monthly Aged Accounts Receivable and Aged Outstanding Claims Report to identify and call patients and/or insurance companies with overdue balance or unpaid claims.
Send out appropriate liens.
Contact insurance companies when there is a discrepancy between payment received and the contractual amount; aware of managed care contracted plans to avoid incorrect discounts taken.
Process request for refunds - account must be audited for overpayments, incorrect payments and proper contractual write-offs, payments and explanation of benefits must be attached to the request and submitted to the Revenue Cycle Supervisor.
Respond to inquiries from patients and insurance companies in a timely manner.
Meet with patients as requested to discuss account inquiries or payment options.
Establish patient payment plans within the approved CHOSC guidelines
Document all conversations with patients and insurance companies in the EMR hub.
If needed, re-submit claims with corrections to the insurance companies.
Process appeals to insurance companies for discrepancies in payment and/or coverage.
Send out rebill and collection letter when appropriate. Follow CHOSC collection protocol.
Recommends to the appropriate physician accounts that need to be sent to collection Properly fill out the Financial Determination Form for review by physician.
Print and mail itemized statements to those patients who request them.
Post surgery charges as directed by the Revenue Cycle Supervisor.

Other:

Maintain patient confidentiality, comply with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by the practice.
Maintain detailed knowledge of practice management as it relates to job functions.
Attend and participate in the quarterly full staff meetings.
Attend continuing education classes/seminars as requested.
Perform any additional duties as requested by any of the CHOSC Management.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands:

Work may require sitting for long periods of time, some bending, stooping and stretching for files and supplies. Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, fax machine, scanner and other office equipment. Employee must have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate information and reports.

Working Conditions:Normal office environment. Work may be stressful at times near month end deadlines or speaking with patients regarding their financial obligations. Will require going to multiple site locations.

Pay: $22.00 - $23.00 per hour
