Full Job Description

Position Summary:

The Education Manager is responsible for ensuring that the requirements of the Education content area are met for Head Start/Early Head Start and Preschool for All/Prevention Initiative. The manager works collaboratively as part of the Education, Disabilities, and Mental Health (EDMH) leadership team to provide oversight, monitoring, training, and coaching to EDMH coordinators and education direct service site level staff. The manager is also responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of program policies and procedures for adherence to Henry Booth House and Head Start requirements, developing training systems for education services, evaluating education programs using qualitative and quantitative data, and ensuring the high quality program delivery of the Education, Disabilities, and Mental Health content areas. The manager is responsible for supervising 5-6 Education Coordinators.

Duties and Responsibilities

Oversees the curriculum fidelity process ensuring that all programs implement curriculum fidelity in the areas of Physical environment, Daily structure, Teacher-child interactions, Ongoing child assessments, and curriculum material use. This includes but is not limited to directing the professional development of classroom staff to improve curriculum fidelity and completion of the supplemental materials procurement process to ensure programs are appropriately resourced with classroom materials, supplies and technology.
Models appropriate adult learning and coaching practices and offers suggestions and guidance to EDMH coordinators who have difficulty in implementing change at assigned sites.
Models professional behavior regarding staff, children, curriculum, new personnel, HBH policies and guidelines.
Assures thorough lesson plan monitoring that ensures teachers select/employ developmentally appropriate materials and equipment in line with HBH Education and Curriculum Policy.
Demonstrates knowledge of and interprets HBH annual and strategic programmatic goals to staff.
Collaborates with the Disabilities/Mental Health manager to ensure the full inclusion of all children within the classroom setting, especially children with suspected and diagnosed disabilities as well as children for whom English is a second language.
Maintains up-to-date file of community resources and encourages incorporation of said resources within the education program including relationships with education enrichment facilities, community organizations committed to supporting ethnic groups served within the grant, and preschool & elementary school programs. Assists Education staff in securing those community resources.
Coordinates with Health and ERSEA/FCE managers to ensure integrated service delivery to children and families.
Assists in planning for and providing education orientation to new Head Start/Pre-K education staff.
Determines areas and topics for training and staff development activities based on classroom observations and lesson plan development meetings.
Ensures that educational aspects of other components are integrated into the curriculum (health, medical, dental, nutritional, etc.) that align with the Child Development and Early Learning Framework, Illinois Early Learning Guidelines, CPS Preventative Initiative, Pre-K Standards and Head Start Performance Standards.
Keeps abreast of current trends in early childhood education and communicates trends to HBH staff.
Assists in registering teachers for CDA Credentialing and other career development. (AA Degree, BA Degree, etc.) .
Tracks the ongoing assessment of enrolled children in SmartTeach and provides guidance to EDMH coordinators on ensuring progress towards program outcomes goals.
Develops component budgets along with the members of the EDMH leadership team.
Makes frequent visits to the Head Start sites for monitoring the education program.
Develops and maintains confidential record keeping and data tracking systems.
Assists with direct evaluation, writing, and updating job descriptions and new hire training plans for Education staff.
Participates in interviews of potential education team members.
Responsible for all reports generated by EDMH Coordinators and provides Director of Education, Disabilities, and Mental Health with summary reports and dashboards.
Provides ongoing coaching, performance and reflective supervision to assigned EDMH coordinators.
Attend monthly Parent Policy Committee Meetings and other meetings as assigned
Complete weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports for Director of EDMH, Parent Policy Council, and HBH Board of Directors.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in early childhood education; or Master’s degree in any subject and coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education with 5 years-experience teaching birth to five preschool age children.
The optimal candidate must have at least 5 years of staff supervisory experience.
Training and experience in the theories & principles of child growth and development, early childhood education and family support.
Demonstrated working knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, philosophy and the current principles of inclusion.
At least one year of experience working with infants, toddlers, or preschoolers and their families and knowledge of the challenges and strengths of low-income families.
Must have proficient communication skills, both oral and written, and strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices, developmental and social-emotional screening tools, and laws protecting individuals with disabilities.
Regular access to a reliable vehicle, vehicle insurance and a valid Illinois driver's license.
Ability to pass a physical exam every two years and a TB test yearly.
Ability to present a positive, professional image of the organization to members of the community.
