About the Company

We are a small, established general contracting company located in Reno, Nevada. We are currently looking for an experienced, dependable Bookkeeper to join our team and play an important role in helping us strengthen and organize our financial operations.

This is not a position for someone looking to simply process transactions and go home at the end of the day. We are looking for someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves, identify problems, bring organization to the accounting process, and become an important part of the company's turnaround and future growth.

Our company operates in the construction industry, where accurate job costing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, billing, lien documentation, and financial reporting are critical to success.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a hands-on construction bookkeeper with strong Sage 100 Contractor experience who understands the unique accounting requirements of a general contractor.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a small-company environment where priorities can change quickly and where the bookkeeper may be responsible for a wide range of accounting functions.

You will have an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by helping management understand where the company stands financially, improving accounting procedures, maintaining accurate job records, and helping establish better financial controls.

This position is ideal for someone who:

Has substantial experience with Sage 100 Contractor (Sage 100 CON)
Understands construction accounting and job costing
Can work independently with limited supervision
Is highly organized and detail-oriented

Primary Responsibilities

Accounting & Bookkeeping

Maintain accurate general ledger records
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
Reconcile bank and credit card accounts
Record and categorize financial transactions
Prepare monthly financial information for management
Assist with month-end and year-end closing
Monitor outstanding receivables and payables
Maintain accurate vendor and customer records
Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies

Construction Accounting & Job Costing

Maintain accurate job cost information in Sage 100 Contractor
Track labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, and other job-related costs
Assist with construction job costing and profitability analysis
Review job costs for accuracy and proper coding
Assist with job billing and progress billing
Track change orders and related financial activity
Help management identify jobs that are over budget or experiencing margin problems
Assist with construction-related documentation and financial reporting

Payroll & Compliance Support

Assist with payroll processing and payroll-related accounting
Maintain accurate employee and subcontractor records
Assist with workers' compensation and insurance-related reporting
Assist with 1099 preparation and year-end reporting
Maintain organized financial records for tax preparation and outside accounting support

Required Qualifications

Required:

Proven bookkeeping/accounting experience
Strong hands-on experience with Sage 100 Contractor (Sage 100 CON)
Construction or general contracting accounting experience
Understanding of job costing
Experience with accounts payable and accounts receivable
Experience with bank reconciliations
Strong attention to detail
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working for a small or closely held construction company
Experience with Nevada construction accounting
Experience with construction payroll
Experience with progress billing
Familiarity with subcontractor accounting
Experience tracking retainage
Understanding of construction job profitability
Experience helping a company clean up or reorganize its accounting records
Experience working directly with company ownership

Pay: $25.67 - $50.00 per hour
