Full-Time | Associate Attorney

Commercial Litigation

Salary: $170,000 - $220,000 + Bonus Potential

About the Opportunity:

A highly respected national law firm is seeking a Commercial Litigation Associate Attorney to join its Kansas City office. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with at least four years of litigation experience who is looking to take on sophisticated, high-stakes matters while working alongside accomplished litigators in a collaborative and supportive environment.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience managing litigation matters from inception through resolution, including discovery, motion practice, depositions, trial preparation, and appeals. This role offers significant client exposure, courtroom experience, and long-term growth opportunities within a thriving litigation practice.

Responsibilities

Manage complex commercial litigation matters through all phases of the litigation process.
Develop case strategy and provide practical legal guidance to clients.
Conduct and manage traditional and electronic discovery.
Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation-related filings.
Prepare for and take depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts.
Participate in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
Handle appellate matters, including briefing and oral advocacy support.
Collaborate with clients, partners, associates, and support staff to drive matters efficiently and effectively.
Manage multiple active matters while maintaining exceptional client service standards.
Delegate work appropriately and assist in mentoring junior attorneys and legal support staff.
Contribute to business development efforts and client relationship management initiatives.

Required

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Active Missouri law license and good standing.
Minimum of 4 years of commercial litigation experience in a law firm environment.
Strong legal writing, research, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
Experience independently managing litigation matters and deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team environment.

Significant experience handling:
Traditional and electronic discovery
Depositions
Motion practice
Court appearances
Trial preparation
Appeals
Courtroom experience in state and/or federal courts.
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities.
Strong academic credentials.
Experience managing junior associates and coordinating litigation teams.
