The Opportunity:
This is a great opportunity to join our Indianapolis team as a Quality Engineer where you will be at the forefront of ensuring the highest standards of quality in our innovative cooling products. You will assist the Quality Director in the continued development, maintenance, implementation, and improvement of the PWR North America Quality System. The ideal candidate will resolve product quality issues, manage product quality planning, and lead initiatives to improve our quality management systems. This position will play a key role as part of the team developing all quality documents that support APQP and FAIR/PPAP requirements for projects. There will need to be a strong production floor presence to monitor and evaluate actual conditions to the project requirements. This role requires a self-starter that requires minimal supervision, looking to develop professionally alongside a fast-growing company where they can contribute their skills.
Specific Duties of the Role:
- Support One PWR philosophy and engage with global quality team
- Resolve product quality issues raised by customers promptly and effectively
- Manage product quality planning and control processes based on customer specifications and requirements, including process maps, control plans, DFMEAs and PFMEAs aligned to APQP and PPAP requirements
- Prepare and update all necessary quality reports as required by customers (e.g. FAIRs / ISIRs)
- Assist with the training and guide the Quality Control (QC) team in identifying and developing problem-solving methodologies to resolve quality issues
- Assist in new product development activities to preemptively address potential quality issues
- Prepare and maintain product quality documentation based on customers' requirements, adhering to AS9100, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 specifications
- Develop product quality processes based on industry standards
- Support customer and supplier audits when required ensuring compliance and address any challenges or opportunities for improvement
- Collaborate with the Quality Engineering team to improve the quality management system based on audit results
- Address customer issues in a timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction
- Work alongside production and engineering managers to assess existing processes for performance, risk, and opportunities
- Support nonconformity reporting process through the ERP system and attend nonconformity meetings when required
- Analyze and improve enterprise-wide processes with adhering to AS9100, ISO, and NADCAP standards
- Compliance to ITAR and EAR requirements aligned to policies and procedures
- When required, support management of stock levels and shelf-life of incoming raw chemical, lubricants, and calibrated equipment
- Management regarding calibration of equipment for cross functional departments, raising purchase orders and liaising with the procurement team
- Support TUS and SAT reporting ensuring traceability is maintained in when presenting evidence during scheduled audits
- Lead and coordinate 5S activities supporting cross functionally
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a similar role
- Experience with aerospace and defense program launch requirements
- Sound understanding of statistical methods for process capability studies and GRR studies.
- Root cause analysis with 5Why methodology and risk-based thinking
- Comprehensive understanding of quality management systems such as AS9100, ISO9001, and IATF 16949
- Comprehensive APQP process knowledge and experience working with CAD and AutoCAD
- Competence in 6 Sigma methodologies
- Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and SPC (Statistical Process Control)
- Strong understanding of technical documentation
- Able to interpret quality data and perform internal audits
- Ability to train staff in quality procedures and problem-solving techniques
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage projects and drive quality initiatives
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 2-3 years of experience in a quality or engineering position
- Able to read drawings and interpret specifications.
- Experienced with manufacturing quality requirements.
- Good communication skills at all levels
- Experienced with Microsoft Office and computer skills.
- Well detailed and disciplined to effectively manage documents and data
- Work with/lead cross functional teams for the projects assigned
- Must be able to multi-task, handle diversity, and provide leadership through problem resolution
