Full Job Description

Job Overview

A growing commercial and industrial services company is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Controller to oversee financial operations, accounting processes, reporting, job costing, and financial systems.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment and enjoys improving processes, increasing visibility into company performance, and helping build scalable financial infrastructure.

The Controller will work closely with leadership, operations, and project management teams to support financial accuracy, operational efficiency, cash flow visibility, and long-term growth initiatives.

This is not solely a transactional accounting position. The ideal candidate is proactive, adaptable, technologically capable, and comfortable helping support both day-to-day accounting operations and broader process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, reconciliations, payroll support, and general ledger management
Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes
Monitor cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance
Oversee job costing accuracy, profitability analysis, and project-based financial reporting
Support billing processes, revenue tracking, collections, and customer financial documentation requirements
Partner with operations and leadership teams to improve reporting visibility and financial decision making
Help optimize accounting workflows, reporting structures, software utilization, and operational processes
Support audits, insurance reporting, compliance documentation, lien waivers, and customer/vendor requirements
Coordinate with external CPA partners regarding taxes, reporting, and financial reviews

Qualifications

Proven experience in construction accounting and financial management
Strong understanding of job costing and project-based accounting
Experience with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, reconciliations, payroll reporting, and financial statements
Strong proficiency in Procore, QuickBooks, Microsoft 365, and construction/project management software platforms
Experience with workflow improvement, system optimization, and process development
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism while handling sensitive financial information

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in commercial construction, industrial services, or specialty contracting industries
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Experience supporting operational leaders with financial reporting and job performance analysis
Indiana Notary Public certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire
