OTOLARYNGOLOGY and H/N SURGERY (IN-OTHN-IUINA)

Department Information

Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine is a national leader in medical research and education. With more than 60 academic departments and specialty divisions across 9 campuses statewide and strong clinical partnerships with Indiana's most advanced hospitals and physician networks, the school is continuously advancing its mission to prepare healers and transform health in Indiana and throughout the world.

The Hashino Lab studies normal and pathological development of the human inner ear and brain. This lab is a highly collaborative group of scientists with research backgrounds ranging from chemical engineering to stem cell biology, neuroscience, and molecular biology. We conduct team-based science, while fostering independence and creative approaches to addressing fundamental scientific questions. The experimental approaches we are currently using include: CRISPR genome editing, stem cell/organoid culture, scRNA-seq/scATAC-seq, 3D imaging/confocal microscopy, and proteomics.

Job Summary

Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results.
Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments.
Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed.
Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training.
Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management.
May train junior-level staff.
May help plan experiments or short-term goals.

Qualifications

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

EDUCATION

Required

Bachelor's degree in science or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred

Research experience.

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
