This is a mid-level .NET developer position. Full stack: database, application logic, and user interface. The work splits between maintaining applications that are in production and building new ones. If you write clean, efficient code, work well from defined requirements, and intend to stay somewhere and build depth, read on.
We’re looking for a mid-level Software Developer – .NET to join our team in Urbandale, Iowa. This is a full-stack development position spanning database development, application logic, and user interface development.
Our application portfolio ranges from legacy Visual Basic 6.0 (VB6) and earlier versions of the .NET Framework through current .NET technologies. All of these applications remain in production, so the role includes both maintaining and enhancing established systems and developing new applications—including a new insurance application portal currently in development.
You do not need to come to us as a VB6 expert. We’re looking for a capable .NET developer who can learn, troubleshoot, and work comfortably across a variety of technologies.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop features, enhancements, and defect fixes based on requirements provided by our solution architect and business analyst
- Build and maintain full-stack applications using C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server, and related technologies
- Maintain and extend production applications ranging from VB6 and earlier .NET Framework versions through current .NET
- Diagnose and resolve defects in both established and newly developed applications
- Develop new applications and features in ASP.NET, using Razor where applicable
- Write and optimize Transact-SQL (T-SQL), including stored procedures and schema changes
- Analyze execution plans and indexes to improve database and query performance
- Implement system-versioned temporal tables and state-machine workflows in new development
- Build and maintain internal REST Web API endpoints
- Integrate applications with authentication and security technologies as required
- Participate in code reviews and follow documented C# and T-SQL coding standards
- Maintain appropriate technical documentation
- Work within established change-control procedures in an annually audited environment
- Collaborate with the solution architect, business analyst, and other team members to deliver practical, efficient solutions
What We’re Looking For:
- 3–5 years of professional software development experience
- Strong working knowledge of C#
- Production experience with ASP.NET
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including schema design, T-SQL, and stored procedures
- Experience analyzing execution plans and using indexes appropriately for query performance
- An understanding of code efficiency, including execution cost, memory usage, and resource management
- Experience maintaining and enhancing long-lived or established codebases
- Problem-solving. Take a scoped problem to a sound, efficient solution without hand-holding. This is the primary criterion.
- Ability to take a well-defined problem from requirements through a sound, efficient solution
- Honesty and self-management, reliable work without supervision. Ability to communicate clearly and directly.
- Standards adherence. You follow the documented conventions. Every time.
- Authorization to work in the United States
It’s a Plus If You Have Experience With:
- Visual Basic 6.0 (VB6)
- Earlier .NET Framework versions, including 1.1, 2.0, and 3.5
- Current .NET and ASP.NET Core
- Razor
- REST API design
- Azure DevOps
- IIS configuration, hosting, and deployment
- Microsoft Entra ID or Entra External ID
- Duo multi-factor authentication (MFA)
- System-versioned temporal tables
- State-machine workflow design
- Development in a regulated or audited environment
- Insurance or environmental regulatory systems
Our Technical Environment:
Languages:
C#, Transact-SQL (T-SQL), Visual Basic 6.0 (VB6), JavaScript, HTML, CSS
Frameworks & Platforms:
.NET Framework 1.1, 2.0, 3.5 and 4.7+, current .NET, ASP.NET, ASP.NET Core, Razor, ASP.NET Core Web API
Data:
Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, stored procedures, system-versioned temporal tables
Infrastructure & Security:
Internet Information Services (IIS), Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Entra External ID, Duo MFA, Azure DevOps
How We Work:
Our solution architect establishes the technical direction and our business analyst develops the business requirements. As the developer, you’ll be responsible for translating those requirements into well-designed, efficient, maintainable solutions.
Coding standards for C# and T-SQL are documented and enforced in review. Correct, consistent code is the measure of the work — not clever code, not volume.
Technology gets adopted when it solves a real problem. Not before.
This position is on-site for the first six months. After the introductory period, employees may be eligible for a hybrid schedule based on demonstrated capability, reliability, and self-management. Hybrid arrangements are determined individually and are not automatic upon completion of the introductory period.
This is not an on-call position, and there is no regular after-hours expectation.
Education & Experience:
A degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required. Equivalent professional experience will be considered.
Certifications are not required. We are more interested in your demonstrated technical ability, problem-solving skills, judgment, and approach to development.
