TEAM is growing and has an opening for a Staff Geotechnical Engineer in our Des Moines, Iowa and Scottsdale, Arizona offices. A Staff Geotechnical Engineer will organize and manage geotechnical engineering and inspection projects under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.

The person in this position will be part of an innovative and collaborative geotechnical engineering team of geotechnical engineers and geologists. TEAM's geotechnical engineering team serves the mining, power, private, and public sectors. We provide a wide array of services related to foundations, dams, embankments, landslides, soil-structure interaction, earth-retaining structures, excavations, underground structures and forensic civil and geotechnical engineering.
We also offer geotechnical services for ground improvement, geotechnical modeling, instrumentation and monitoring, in-situ testing, geophysics, soil dynamics, geosynthetics, geohazard assessments, and groundwater and seepage. Key responsibilities include performing engineering investigation and design support tasks under the direction of senior engineering professionals from the conceptual phase through design. The role involves conducting geotechnical field investigations, assigning geotechnical laboratory tests, analyzing lab and field data, and supporting the development of geotechnical reports.
Additionally, the position requires preparing proposals for geotechnical investigations and designs and preparing cost estimates for construction observations and testing which includes performing fieldwork such as construction observation, instrumentation installation and monitoring, and field oversight and inspections.
General Responsibilities:
Drafting engineering proposals and reports.
Coordination of subsurface exploration and laboratory testing operations.
Communicating well with clients, design team members, contractors, and fellow staff.
Interpret construction-stage inspection results to assist senior engineers in providing either approval of soil conditions or recommendations to correct deficiencies.
Provide on-site oversight and guidance to contractors as warranted.
Manage small to medium sized projects from proposals through preparing geotechnical engineering reports.
Work with clients and senior engineers to develop proposals that define project scope, schedule, and budget.
Analyze data and perform engineering calculations and analysis for senior engineer review.
Conduct, coordinate or supervise field investigations, laboratory testing, and evaluation of respective data.
Conduct forensic engineering site visits and investigations and help prepare reports and exhibits.
Work closely with senior-level project manager and Professional Engineer of Record to gain project management and engineering experience.
Make design recommendations, adaptations and modifications for review and consideration by the Professional Engineer of Record.
Supervise engineering technicians, exploration teams, laboratory staff and other support personnel.
Work under the supervision of a Professional Engineer.
- Engineer-in-training (EIT) certification (Preferred).
- BSCE Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Preferred).
Good communication skills including technical writing.
Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Pre-employment drug screen.
Demonstrated skill and proficiency in engineering principles and the ability to develop and implement solutions to a wide range of problems.
Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people, work effectively within project teams, resolve issues and problems in a positive manner, and work independently in the field.
Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing 30 pounds or more.
Computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets.
Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from TEAM, now or in the future.
