Summary: Responsible for creating, marketing and managing cutting edge, balanced, and member-focused fitness programming while recruiting and developing a team of entertaining, educated, and motivated instructors. Also, responsible for taking strategic and proactive steps to grow Group Fitness Programs and to generate revenue by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Ensures all Fitness Programs are successful by scheduling and monitoring programs and instructors on a monthly basis, coordinating subbing/coverage for classes as needed, and maintaining records of attendance.*
2. Provides classes taught for payroll processing every two weeks and class enrollment reports to General Manager at the end of every month.*
3. Ensures that all programming facilities and equipment are well maintained at all times.*
4. Completes monthly equipment inventories and communicates needs to General Manager.*
5. Attends and participates in department head meetings every week.*
6. Meets with instructors and department managers on a regular basis to communicate information and resolve issues in a timely manner; and is present onsite to address questions about Group Fitness Programs.*
7. Operates the department within budget guidelines and tracks/reconciles the Fitness Program budget on a monthly basis.*
8. Recruits, auditions, hires, supervises, and evaluates instructors; performance evaluations must be completed once a year and class observations of all instructors should be completed every 6 months.*
9. Maintains group certification records and CPR records; including Les Mills certifications.*
10. Promotes all company programs, products, and services to current and prospective members and ensures that instructors receive communication to do the same.*
11. Creates and markets Group Fitness Programs to various user groups in the community.*
12. Develops and collaborates with other departments to create new programs and initiatives.*
13. Works with Marketing Director and plans for special events such as Les Mills Quarterly Launches, Anniversary party for gym, Membership Appreciation Day, etc.*
14. Teaches 1-2 group fitness classes every week (see below for key responsibilities of fitness instructors).*
15. Possesses a detail-oriented manner.*

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises the Group Fitness Staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Language Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of word processing software, spreadsheet software, accounting software, inventory software, and internet software.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) from four-year college or university; and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Specialized Training:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Health Education or related field
· At least three years of experience in program management, especially in the health and fitness industry
· At least three years of supervisory experience
· At least one year of experience marketing and growing programs
Certificates and Licenses:
· Group fitness certifications for a variety of classes
· Current CPR certification
· Current AED certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Abilities:
· Ensuring that member’s needs are met through personal recognition and by providing quality service and group fitness classes
· Assuming a leadership role as a professional in the area of exercise and aerobics
· Ensuring that a safe and healthy environment exists for exercising
· Dressing appropriately for teaching exercise classes
· Arriving well-prepared, music cued, and routine thought out
· Learning the names of participants who attend your classes

NOTE: This position is for the Director of the GROUP EXERCISE department, including Les Mills classes, Spin, Yoga, etc. This is not a Personal Training position.
Pay: $15,000.00 - $40,000.00 per year
