Position: Project Engineer – Commercial AV
Classification: Full-Time
Reports to: Engineering Manager
About the Role
At Reliant Media, our strength is our team. The Project Engineer plays a critical role in turning great AV designs into successful real-world implementations. Working closely with Sales, Engineering, and Project Management, the Project Engineer helps ensure systems are designed, documented, and implemented correctly from concept through commissioning.This role is ideal for a technically minded professional who enjoys solving problems, learning new technologies, and supporting installation teams in the field. Project Engineers help keep projects moving forward while ensuring our reputation for professionalism and customer satisfaction remains strong.
What You'll Be Doing
- Assist with the design and engineering of commercial AV systems including audio, video, control, and collaboration technologies.
- Create and maintain detailed system documentation including schematics, signal flow diagrams, equipment lists, and installation drawings.
- Work closely with Sales Engineers and Project Managers to transition projects from design into implementation.
- Support installation teams by providing technical clarification and troubleshooting during project execution.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and submittals to ensure alignment with project requirements.
- Participate in site surveys and client meetings to evaluate technical requirements and site conditions.
- Assist with equipment configuration, system testing, and commissioning of AV systems.
- Help develop standardized documentation, design templates, and internal engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with CAD, Sales, and Operations teams to ensure project designs are accurate and buildable.
- Stay current with evolving AV technologies and integration methods to continuously improve system design.
What You Bring to the Team
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Technology, Audio Engineering, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in commercial AV system design, integration, or technical support.
- Strong understanding of AV signal flow, control systems, DSP platforms, and conferencing technologies.
- Experience with commercial AV hardware including audio systems, video conferencing platforms, displays, and control interfaces.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, system schematics, and project specifications.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical team members.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with CAD software for AV system drawings and layouts.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Windows operating systems.
- Working knowledge of AV control platforms, DSP configuration, and conferencing systems.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals as they relate to AV systems.
Certifications
- AVIXA CTS certification preferred.
- CTS-D or CTS-I certifications are highly desirable or willingness to pursue them.

Additional Details
Work Environment: Professional office environment with occasional field work at client sites.
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, standard 8-hour workday. No weekends expected.
Travel: Primarily local travel for site surveys and project support.
Work Location: In person – Birmingham, AL 35211.
Relocation: Relocation to Birmingham, AL required prior to start date.
