We are seeking a dedicated Product Compliance Engineer to own the full certification lifecycle for our product lines. This individual will serve as the internal subject matter expert on all certification programs, driving timely approvals, maintaining documentation, and ensuring our products remain in compliance with applicable standards.
Certification Scope
The Product Compliance Engineer will be the primary owner of the following certification programs:
- NFRC: National Fenestration Rating Council — thermal performance ratings (U-factor, SHGC, VT) for door and glazing systems
- KCI / TAS: Miami-Dade / Florida Building Code large missile impact testing and product approval submissions (TAS 201, 202, 203)
- Impact: High-velocity hurricane zone (HVHZ) and non-HVHZ impact certification for door assemblies, including glazing and frame systems
- SGCC: Safety Glazing Certification Council — tempered, laminated, and safety glass compliance verification and labeling
- FBC: High-velocity hurricane zone (HVHZ) and non-HVHZ impact certification for door assemblies, including glazing and frame systems for Florida specifically
Key Responsibilities
Certification Management
- Own end-to-end management of all active and pending certifications across NFRC, KCI, TAS Impact, FBC, and SGCC programs
- Maintain a master certification tracker with expiration dates, renewal timelines, and submission statuses
- Prepare, submit, and manage all certification applications, product approval renewals, and agency correspondence
- Coordinate product approval filings with the Florida Building Commission, Miami-Dade County, and other applicable authorities
Product Building & Testing
- Plan, schedule, and oversee all certification test builds, including component selection, assembly, and documentation
- Prepare test specimens in accordance with laboratory and agency requirements; travel to test labs as needed
- Serve as the on-site technical representative during testing at AAMA-accredited or agency approved laboratories
- Troubleshoot test failures, identify root causes, and develop corrective action plans to achieve passing results
Engineering & Documentation
- Develop and maintain certification drawings, product configurations, and bill-of-materials documentation tied to approved listings
- Ensure production configurations remain within approved test parameters; review engineering change orders for compliance impact
- Maintain a controlled library of all certification reports, product approval records, agency correspondence, and test data
- Communicate certification limitations and approved configurations to sales, engineering, and production teams
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Engineering to ensure new product designs are developed with certification feasibility in mind
- Work with Sales and Customer Service to respond to certification inquiries from architects, contractors, and inspectors
- Support Operations in ensuring that production processes, materials, and suppliers remain consistent with certified configurations
- Provide compliance guidance during new product introduction (NPI) and product line expansion initiatives
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of experience in product compliance, certification engineering, or regulatory affairs within fenestration, building products, or a related manufacturing sector
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following: NFRC simulation and certification, Florida Building Code product approvals (FL#), Miami-Dade NOA process, SGCC certification
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent certification projects from initiation through final listing
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, test standards, and product specifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word); experience with document management and project tracking tools
- Ability to travel to test laboratories and regulatory agencies as needed (estimated 10–20%)
Preferred
- Experience with aluminum door or window systems, curtain wall, or glazed assemblies
- Familiarity with AAMA, WDMA, or FGIA standards and product certification programs
- Experience working with accredited test laboratories (e.g., Architectural Testing, FTL, Hurricane Test Laboratory)
- Knowledge of TAS 201/202/203 and large missile impact testing protocols
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Science, or related field — or equivalent applied experience
