Full Job Description

Position: Clinical Counselor

Program: Mental Health Counseling Program

Supervisor: Counseling Program Coordinator

Location: Dallas, TX

Hours: M-F 8:45 am to 5:15 pm, 20 hours per week including some early morning, evenings and weekends as needed

Type: Part-Time (20 hours)

Classification: Exempt

Funding Status: Grant-funded position

Union Status: This position operates within a unionized environment and supports employees covered by a collective bargaining agreement (CBA). This position itself is represented and is required to adhere to the terms, conditions, and procedures outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Job Summary

Mosaic Family Services’ Counseling Program provides trauma-informed/responsive, survivor-centered, and culturally responsive counseling and mental health services to Mosaic clients who are survivors of family violence and human trafficking. This position will provide direct therapeutic mental health services for shelter and nonresidential clients. Including individual counseling, family therapy, and support groups. This position will also work collaboratively with the Senior Director, Case Management, Legal, Shelter, Transitional Housing, and other departments, and community partners, to ensure a holistic approach and best outcomes for survivors. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, innovative, and a team player.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Direct Counseling and Mental Health Services

Provides individual counseling, family therapy, and support groups for shelter and nonresidential clients.
Provides an array of mental health services to promote individualized client recovery including intakes, diagnosis, treatment plans, referrals, and assessments.
Provides crisis counseling and intervention, suicide risk assessments and safety planning, and support as needed.
Connects clients with appropriate resources and referrals for clients as needed.
Ensures compliance with all state and federal professional, licensing and supervision requirements, confidentiality requirements, grantor requirements, and laws.
Conducts professional training and community outreach and education representing Mosaic values, positions, and approaches.
Maintains and utilize updated professional knowledge and training of mental health, family violence, human trafficking, Mosaic policies and procedures, and other related topics.
Maintains timely, accurate, and proper documentation and record-keeping for grant reports and applications, program, agency, and professional requirements.
Participates in assigned weekly, monthly, and quarterly staff meetings, and ongoing supervision and program evaluation.
Assists with other position-related duties as appropriate and assigned by Supervisor(s) or their designee.

Qualifications and Skills

Required

Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related mental health field from an accredited school.
Holds a license to perform in-state by the National Board for Certified Counselors and/or National Association of Social Workers (LPC, LPC-A, LMSW, LCSW).
Experience in making professional evaluations, decisions, and recommendations for treatment planning and implementation.
Knowledge and experience of de-escalation or handling crisis situations using sound professional judgment, ethical practice, and common sense.
Ability to effectively work and communicate (oral and written) with individuals with diverse backgrounds.
Ability to respond in a constructive, supportive manner in crisis situations.
Ability to creatively solve practical problems with limited available resources.
Strong organization and time management skills and ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced and changing environment.
Proficiency in technology skills, including Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc.).

Preferred

Hold a full license to perform in-state by the National Board for Certified Counselors and/or National Association of Social Workers (LPC, LCSW).
Registered Play Therapist or willing to secure certification.
Clinical experience, knowledge, and sensitivity working with survivors, individuals with trauma, abuse, exploitation, and/or vulnerable or underserved populations.
Experience and knowledge with telehealth and telehealth platform(s).
Personal survivorship, lived experience, or exposure to interpersonal trauma.
Experience with advocacy surrounding systemic issues and challenges.
Bilingual in English, Spanish, or other Asian, Middle Eastern, or African languages.

This position is primarily government grant-funded and dependent on the availability of government funding and awards received by each agency fiscal year (October – September).
