Job description: Customs & Trade Compliance Specialist

Location: Onsite – Irving, TX

Employment Type: Full-time

Salary: 105K - 135 K Dollars / year

Position Summary

Aborder Products is a fast-growing cross-border e-commerce company (Pet, Travel, Baby Safety, and more) based in Irving, TX. The Customs & Trade Compliance Specialist is responsible for resolving US customs and import compliance matters through sound regulatory judgment and practical decision-making.

This role independently evaluates compliance issues, makes decisions within established authority, and coordinates with relevant internal and external stakeholders to implement those decisions. Important decisions must be documented and communicated to COO & Inhouse Counsel. Matters involving material legal, financial, or business exposure must be escalated with a clear recommendation and supporting rationale.

This position is not primarily responsible for routine entry filing or daily shipment tracking. Its primary value is solving complex US-side compliance issues, reducing regulatory exposure, and establishing reliable decision standards for the business.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor changes in US customs laws, regulations, CBP procedures, tariffs, and enforcement priorities; translate relevant changes into clear business requirements and actions.
Make compliance decisions within established authority on HTS classification, customs valuation, country of origin, marking requirements, Section 301 and 232 tariffs, AD/CVD exposure, and other applicable import requirements.
Resolve complex US customs matters, including CBP inquiries, examinations, requests for information, entry corrections, protests, prior disclosures, penalties, and audit-related issues, with support from brokers or external counsel when appropriate.
Provide clear compliance instructions to customs brokers, freight forwarders, and relevant business teams, and coordinate implementation of approved decisions.
Review selected customs entries, ISF filings, ACE data, and supporting documentation to identify material errors, recurring issues, and control gaps; determine corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
Evaluate new products, sourcing arrangements, logistics models, Importer of Record structures, Amazon FBA inbound shipments, low-value shipment procedures, and other business initiatives from a US import compliance perspective.
Address applicable Partner Government Agency requirements, including FDA and CPSC requirements, based on the relevant product category.
Develop and maintain customs compliance policies, SOPs, decision records, escalation standards, internal training, recordkeeping controls, and management risk reporting.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience.
3-5 years of hands-on US customs or import compliance experience with an importer, customs brokerage, freight forwarder, law or advisory firm, or mature corporate trade compliance function.
Demonstrated experience independently analyzing complex customs issues and making defensible compliance decisions.
Strong working knowledge of HTS classification, customs valuation, country-of-origin rules, marking requirements, Section 301 and 232 tariffs, AD/CVD, ISF, ACE, and import recordkeeping.
Experience resolving complex matters involving CBP, customs brokers, freight forwarders, or other government agencies.

Preferred Qualifications

Licensed US Customs Broker.
Experience in a mature in-house customs or trade compliance organization, including Amazon Customs & Trade, Amazon Global Trade Services, or a comparable function.
Experience supporting e-commerce, marketplace, or Amazon FBA import operations.
Direct experience with CBP rulings, prior disclosures, protests, customs audits, CTPAT, duty drawback, First Sale valuation, or Foreign-Trade Zones.
