The Drafter at MetalPeak Fabrication researches and develops new product designs, tests prototypes, and improves existing ones, utilizing technical knowledge and creative skills. Utilizes CAD software to create prototypes and plans, collaborates with engineers, researchers, and stakeholders to ensure designs are viable and meet safety, cost, and user experience requirements. Responsible for evaluating designs for cost-effectiveness, usability, and environmental impact, and may also manage project budgets and timelines.

Description

Duties/ Responsibilities:

Create new designs, develop, improve and refine existing product designs through research, analysis, and the application of engineering principles based on feedback and new requirements.
Build and test prototypes to evaluate functionality, usability, and performance.
Utilize CAD software to create detailed technical drawings, plans and 3D models.
Work with interdisciplinary teams, collaborate and communicate effectively with stakeholders, engineers, designers, clients, colleagues, and manufacturing professionals to ensure designs are feasible and meet requirements.
Test prototypes, identify and resolve design-related issues, ensure products are reliable, efficient, and cost-effective to validate and identify areas for improvement.
Adhere to safety standards, regulations, and industry guidelines to ensure product safety and compliance.
Meet design requirements to ensure that designs meet specific functional, aesthetic, and performance requirements.
Prepare technical reports, manuals, and specifications to document the design process and product specifications.
Research and selecting appropriate materials for design based on performance, cost, and additional factors.
Analyze data from tests, evaluate design solutions, and make informed decisions based on evidence.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

A BS/BA degree from an accredited college/university

Qualifications:

Required:

CAD software proficiency: Strong knowledge of CAD software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
Engineering principles: A strong understanding of engineering principles, including mechanics, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Technical communication: The ability to communicate technical information effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Problem-solving skills: The ability to identify and solve complex design problems.
Creativity and innovation: The ability to think outside the box and develop innovative design solutions.

Preferred:

A minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at time.

Work Environment:

Indoor fabrication shop with exposure to welding arcs, heavy materials and heave machinery.
Noise levels require hearing protection.
Team-based, fast-paced production environment.
On-Site requirement for this role in Hunker, PA.
