Position Overview
Faith Lutheran Church is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support the financial operations of the church. Working closely with the Business Administrator, this position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial and giving records while helping ensure responsible stewardship of church resources.
This role is ideal for someone who is self-motivated, organized, calm under pressure, and committed to excellence. We are looking for a person who takes pride in their work, works well with a variety of personalities, contributes positively to team chemistry, and demonstrates both competence and humility. The successful candidate should be confident in their abilities while also being willing to ask questions or acknowledge when they need guidance or additional information.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain all church financial records accurately and confidentially
- Prepare financial reports and related documentation as needed
- Process contributions, receipts, disbursements, and journal entries
- Manage accounts payable and print checks while ensuring proper approvals are obtained
- Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll
- Reconcile bank and investment accounts
- Assist with year-end financial procedures and annual audit preparation
- Ensure compliance with church policies and applicable federal and state laws
- Provide receptionist support when volunteers are unavailable
- Maintain organized paper and electronic records
- Participate in staff meetings and ongoing meetings with the Business Administrator
Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, including payroll and accounts payable/receivable
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience with accounting software, spreadsheets, databases, and standard office equipment
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven problem-solving ability
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Acceptable background check as determined by Faith Lutheran Church

Physical Requirements
- Ability to move freely throughout a single-level facility
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
Hours & Pay:
- Monday - Thursday: 9:00 AM - 2:30 PM and Friday 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
- This is an in-person position based out of our main office.
- Hourly Range: $23-$26 per hour
