Cornell University is seeking a strategic and relationship-focused Campus Facilities Planner to help plan for the future needs of our campus.
As a Campus Facilities Planner, you will work at the intersection of facilities, planning, and stakeholder engagement. By partnering with campus units and facilities experts, you will identify current and emerging facility needs, evaluate building and infrastructure conditions, and help guide maintenance and capital renewal investments that support Cornell's academic, research, and operational priorities.

The Campus Facilities Planner supports the prioritization of maintenance and renewal resources using the following guidelines:

Facilities Management (FM) provides maintenance, grounds, and custodial services to the entire campus. As a key steward of the University’s facilities, FM is responsible for facility assessments, skilled trades, general construction, building care, grounds, recycling, asbestos, and the management of planned, corrective, and preventive maintenance.

Build strong relationships across Facilities Management and campus partners to identify current and future facility, infrastructure, and space needs.

Assess the condition of buildings, grounds, infrastructure, and related assets across an assigned portfolio of approximately 2.4 million square feet.

Identify maintenance, renewal, and replacement needs while maintaining accurate facility condition records and planning documentation.

Develop planning recommendations, project scopes, and order-of-magnitude cost estimates to support informed decision-making.

Collaborate with Facilities Management leadership, technical experts, and campus stakeholders to evaluate complex facility challenges and develop practical solutions.

Prepare reports, presentations, and planning materials that communicate facility conditions, maintenance needs, risks, and investment recommendations.

Support a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and respect by working effectively with colleagues and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Bachelor’s degree and 5 to 7 years relevant experience or equivalent combination. Required to demonstrate proficiency of knowledge of University policies and procedures surrounding project work.

Working knowledge of facility condition assessment, building systems, infrastructure, general construction practices, maintenance planning, and capital renewal concepts.

Demonstrated ability to assess facility needs, document deficiencies and condition findings, evaluate priorities, and develop planning recommendations using condition data, stakeholder input, operational impact, and resource considerations.

Ability to develop baseline scopes, planning assumptions, order-of-magnitude cost estimates, reports, presentation materials, and supporting documentation for maintenance, renewal, and capital planning efforts.

Experience using excel, databases, project management tools, and/or facilities management software to support planning, analysis, documentation, and reporting.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders, including Facilities Management staff, campus partners, technical resources, project teams, and unit leadership.

Strong judgment, communication, and organizational skills, including the ability to work through ambiguity, manage multiple priorities, and communicate concerns clearly to a range of audiences.

Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative, and support consistent work processes and procedures.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license; use of a personal vehicle may be required.

Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities.

Experience in a higher education, research, healthcare, government, or similarly complex institutional environment.

Experience supporting capital projects, facility assessments, deferred maintenance planning, or asset management programs.

Familiarity with systems such as IBM Maximo, e-Builder, or similar facilities and project management platforms.

Experience participating in project design reviews, construction coordination, project turnover, or QA/QC activities.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role remotely 1 day per week and on-campus 4 days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.
