Software Engineer, Backend
Location: New York City, NY
Work Arrangement: On-site
Employment Type: Full-time
Department: Engineering
About the Opportunity
Our client is transforming how go-to-market teams operate by turning customer conversations and interactions into structured data, actionable insights, and intelligent workflows.
The company’s AI agents help sales and revenue teams execute faster, learn continuously, and make deal cycles more efficient and predictable. The platform sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, automation, conversational intelligence, and the modern revenue technology stack.
This is an opportunity to join a rapidly growing, early-stage company with strong product-market fit and support from world-class investors. The team operates with speed, intensity, high standards, and a strong sense of ownership.
You will be expected to do more than complete assigned backend tasks. You will own meaningful areas of a customer-facing B2B product, make architectural decisions, work through ambiguous problems, and support the systems you build in production.
This role is best suited for an engineer who enjoys working in a small, fast-moving environment where individual contributions have a direct impact on customers, product direction, system reliability, and company growth.
What You Will Do
- Own backend features and product areas from initial problem definition through design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and production support.
- Translate open-ended product and business requirements into clear technical designs, implementation plans, and deliverable engineering tasks.
- Design and build distributed, scalable, and maintainable backend systems using Go.
- Build and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs used by customer-facing applications and internal platform services.
- Design PostgreSQL schemas, data models, queries, and system integrations that support both current product needs and long-term platform growth.
- Write simple, elegant, high-quality code that is easy for other engineers to understand, maintain, and extend.
- Apply SOLID design principles when designing Go services, interfaces, packages, and system components.
- Build comprehensive unit and integration test coverage for the systems and features you own.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, frontend engineering, and other stakeholders to turn product specifications into reliable production features.
- Work directly with internal and external stakeholders to understand how customers use the product and where engineering improvements can create greater business value.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve customer workflows, internal business processes, system reliability, and engineering efficiency.
- Influence product direction and platform capabilities by contributing your own ideas and technical recommendations.
- Balance immediate customer and business priorities with long-term architectural quality, scalability, and maintainability.
- Demonstrate and communicate completed work clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Monitor production performance and take responsibility for diagnosing, resolving, and preventing issues within the areas you own.
- Contribute effectively within an early-stage engineering team where priorities may evolve and engineers are expected to operate with autonomy.
Required Qualifications
- At least 2 years of professional industry experience as a Software Engineer.
- Strong professional backend engineering experience with Golang.
- Deep knowledge of the Go standard library and established Go development practices.
- Experience designing, architecting, and maintaining distributed systems.
- Experience designing and building both GraphQL and REST APIs.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL, including database schema design and data modelling.
- Deep understanding of SOLID design principles and the ability to apply them effectively in Go.
- Extensive experience writing unit tests and integration tests.
- Strong knowledge of Git and professional version-control workflows.
- Ability to independently take an ambiguous or open-ended problem and turn it into a thoughtful, practical technical design.
- Strong degree of autonomy and personal accountability for delivery.
- Experience owning work across the full software development lifecycle, including planning, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and production support.
Product Ownership and Impact Expectations
Strong candidates will be able to demonstrate clear examples of:
- Owning a backend system, product feature, service, or customer-facing workflow over an extended period.
- Making meaningful architectural or technical design decisions.
- Building and maintaining production software rather than only contributing isolated tasks or short-term projects.
- Working on customer-facing B2B software products.
- Partnering with product, design, customers, or business stakeholders.
- Improving measurable outcomes such as system reliability, performance, scalability, customer adoption, development speed, operational efficiency, or revenue-related workflows.
- Identifying problems proactively and driving solutions without requiring detailed step-by-step direction.
- Working successfully within a startup, early-stage company, small engineering team, or similarly fast-moving environment.
Our Technology StackBackend
- Go
- PostgreSQL
- Kubernetes
- AWS
- Kafka
- Redis
- Temporal workflows
Frontend and API Layer
- React
- Next.js
- Tailwind CSS
- GraphQL
Direct experience with every technology in the stack is not required, but candidates must have strong Go, API design, PostgreSQL, distributed systems, testing, and backend architecture experience.
What Success Looks Like
In this role, success means that you can:
- Take ownership of a meaningful backend product area with minimal supervision.
- Build systems that are reliable, maintainable, testable, and understandable by the wider engineering team.
- Make sound technical decisions while balancing delivery speed and long-term architecture.
- Work effectively with product, design, engineering, and customer-facing stakeholders.
- Ship production features that create visible value for users and the business.
- Remain accountable for the performance and reliability of the systems you build after launch.
- Adapt quickly as product requirements, customer needs, and company priorities evolve.
Culture and Working Style
We are looking for someone who:
- Is passionate about the company’s mission and can empathize with users and how they interact with the product.
- Has experience building, launching, scaling, and maintaining production products in a fast-paced environment.
- Enjoys working cross-functionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrates grit, adaptability, curiosity, and sound judgment.
- Can thrive within an early-stage team where not every problem has an established process or predefined solution.
- Values ownership, quality, speed, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Is comfortable receiving responsibility for outcomes rather than only being assigned implementation tasks.
