Full Job Description

Caster Concepts is a group of manufacturing companies in Albion, MI. We hire welders, machinists, CNC operators, fabricators, assemblers, and maintenance techs, and finding those people takes someone whose whole job is to be out there looking.

That is this role. You will learn what each of our companies needs, go find those people, and carry them through to a hire. You will also write the grants that pay for training and skill development for the employees we already have, which is one of the biggest opportunities we have to grow people from the inside.

This position sits apart from traditional HR. Our administrative team owns onboarding paperwork, benefits enrollment, and employee files, so your time goes entirely to the people side, finding them, meeting them, hiring them, and building the training that moves them forward.

What you will be doing

Meeting regularly with plant managers and supervisors across our companies to understand current openings, what is coming, and what makes someone successful in each role
Sourcing candidates through Indeed, referrals, trade schools, apprenticeship programs, community organizations, job fairs, and plain old word of mouth
Reaching out to people directly, including people who are not actively job hunting
Screening resumes and running phone screens
Interviewing candidates and coordinating plant tours or working interviews with the hiring supervisors
Keeping candidates warm and communicated with, so we do not lose good people to slow follow-up
Carrying candidates through to offer, then handing off to our admin team for onboarding paperwork
Writing and managing workforce training grants, with the Going PRO Talent Fund as the centerpiece, to fund skill development and apprenticeship training for employees across our companies
Working with supervisors to identify where training dollars would do the most good, then tracking, documenting, and reporting on those grants through to close
Representing our companies out in the community as a place people want to work
Tracking what is working and what is not, so we get better at this over time

What we are looking for

We are open on background. Two different kinds of people could do this well:

Someone who came up in manufacturing or the trades. You know what a good machinist looks like because you have worked next to one. You can talk to a welder about the work without faking it. You have never recruited before, and that is fine, we can teach that part.

Someone who has recruited or staffed before. You know how to source, screen, and close. You are willing to spend time on the floor learning what these jobs actually involve, because you cannot sell a job you do not understand.

Either way, the things that really matter:

You like talking to people, and people tend to open up to you
You follow up. Reliably. This job lives or dies on follow-up
You can work independently and manage your own week without someone checking on you
You are comfortable being in a plant environment, on the floor, in steel toes
You are organized enough to keep track of a lot of candidates at once
You are local to the Albion, Jackson, Marshall, Battle Creek area, or willing to be here regularly

Nice to have: grant writing or grant reporting experience, especially Going PRO Talent Fund or other Michigan workforce grants, existing connections in the local trades community, experience at job fairs or with trade school partnerships, familiarity with Indeed Employer tools or an applicant tracking system.

Some flexibility in how you set your week, with the understanding that job fairs and candidate schedules sometimes fall outside normal hours
