Full Job Description

Responsibilities:

Child Care and Development

Provide direct supervision and care for infants and children ages birth through 11 years.

Work with approved volunteers available to assist with childcare needs in the program.

Maintain a safe, nurturing, clean, and developmentally appropriate environment.

Develop, organize, and implement structured daily schedules and age-appropriate activities that promote physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development.

Encourage positive behavior while utilizing appropriate behavior management and de-escalation techniques.

Respond calmly and effectively to behavioral challenges using trauma-informed approaches.

Monitor children's physical and emotional well-being and report concerns to appropriate clinical staff.

Ensure children's daily needs are met, including supervision during meals, play, rest periods, and recreational activities.

Family Support

Work closely with mothers to model and reinforce healthy parenting skills.

Encourage positive parent-child interactions through coaching and therapeutic support.

Assist mothers in implementing effective parenting techniques consistent with their treatment goals.

Maintain professional boundaries while establishing positive, respectful relationships with clients.

Demonstrate patience, empathy, and professionalism when interacting with mothers who may be experiencing emotional distress or adjusting to treatment.

Program Support

Assist in developing and implementing structured programming for children and families.

Assist staff and clients with discharge planning and appropriate discharge criteria as assigned.

Maintain accurate, timely, and professional documentation according to agency standards.

Maintain all required records and reports.

Follow all agency policies, procedures, licensing regulations, and accreditation standards.

Assist with maintaining compliance with state licensing requirements and organizational standards.

Attend staff meetings, trainings, and required in-service education.

Provide requested program information and reports as directed.

Crisis Intervention

Recognize and appropriately respond to behavioral crises involving children or clients.

Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques whenever possible.

Perform physical interventions only when absolutely necessary and only in accordance with agency policy and current Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification.

Maintain current certification in approved crisis intervention techniques.

Follow all policies regarding restraint and seclusion.

Professional Responsibilities

Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical behavior at all times.

Cooperate with scheduling requirements and maintain dependable attendance.

Be available for schedule adjustments due to emergencies, staffing needs, or vacations when possible.

Seek, accept, and implement constructive feedback from supervisors.

Maintain effective communication with supervisors and interdisciplinary treatment staff.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director, Administrator, Medical Director, and/or CEO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.

High school diploma or GED required.

Experience working with children preferred.

Experience in behavioral health, residential treatment, childcare, early childhood education, or human services preferred.

Ability to work effectively with children and families experiencing mental health and substance use disorders.

Demonstrated ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Basic computer proficiency with the ability to complete professional documentation.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while functioning effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required Certifications

Must maintain current certification in:

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI/NCI)

CPR

First Aid

Flu vaccination is mandatory and required for all positions (subject only to qualified exemptions).

Physical Requirements

The employee must possess the physical ability to safely perform all essential job functions, including:

Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.

Frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, reach, and lift while caring for children.

Use hands and fingers to handle objects, equipment, and children's care items.

Maintain sufficient visual, auditory, and olfactory abilities necessary to ensure child safety and respond appropriately in emergency situations.

Communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and through written documentation.

Operate computers, office equipment, and electronic documentation systems.

Possess the physical strength and stamina required to safely supervise active children.

Safely perform approved physical interventions when necessary, in accordance with current crisis intervention certification (CPI) and agency policy.

Working Conditions

This position is performed within a residential behavioral health treatment facility serving women in recovery and their children. The environment is fast-paced and requires flexibility, emotional resilience, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining professionalism and compassion.

Level One - Full Access: Ongoing regular access to PHI of all forms while the employee is on duty and performing within the scope of his or her job as defined by the employee's job description, and Policy and Procedure. "Such access must be for cause, consistent with job responsibilities and related to patients, claims, audits, reviews and other legitimate business purposes." (e.g. Physicians, nurses and other clinicians)
