R&D Formulation Technician
Summary
To assist the R&D Director in all functions of R&D. This
includes testing, formulating, verifying lab equipment, etc. This position reports
to the Director, R&D.
Primary responsibilities:
· Develop personal care and cosmetic skin and hair care products from concept or base formulations to production
· Interface regularly with the customers and management regarding formulation of the
products
· Prepares or assists in the preparation of laboratory batches for: new formulas, reformulations, process optimization and alternate raw material validation
· Optimize existing formulations for improved performance, cost-efficiency, or ingredient profile.
· Troubleshoot formulation issues, such as stability problems, compatibility issues, or performance deficiencies.
· Maintenance of raw material storage area and inventory
· Maintain a laboratory notebook
· Review ingredients in formulas for raw material substitution
· Understand Regulatory requirements for formulations
· Formulate from concept to launch
· Duplicate prototypes
· Understand each ingredient function, and its use.
· Perform stability testing and trouble shoot unstable formulas and scale-up issues
· Supervise pilot and production batches
· Manage multiple projects
· Maintain a clean and orderly workplace
· Prepare samples for shipment to customers/vendors
· Source raw materials and follow R&D raw material approval process
· Maintain/update SDS binders and other pertinent documentation for raw materials and bulk
· Perform laboratory tests, including but not limited to pH, viscosity, titrations and other analytical methods
· Assist in analytical method creation
· Calibration of laboratory thermometers when necessary
· Assist with conducting internal audits and writing of GMP documents including SOPs and Protocols as needed for department function
· Perform other work-related duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
· Knowledge of cosmetics formulation/raw materials required
· Experience with cosmetic skin and haircare product formulation
· Bachelor's degree in chemistry or relevant Science
· Consistently meets customer deadlines and expectations
· Ability to work occasional overtime and weekend hours as needed is required
· Ideal candidate must be highly flexible and must be able to multitask as needed
· Attention to detail.
· Excellent verbal / written communication skills.
· Strong organizational skills and able to prioritize tasks.
· Strong knowledge base within chemistry and formulation principle in skin care and hair
care
· Strong knowledge base and understanding in cGMP and GLP
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
