SYRACUSE COMMUNITY HEBREW SCHOOL

Administrative & Communications Assistant

Part-Time Syracuse, NY

Syracuse Community Hebrew School is seeking a highly organized and dependable Administrative & Communications Assistant to support our growing community of learners and families. This role serves as a key partner to the Head of School, helping coordinate communications, maintain records, support weekly programming, and ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of the school. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, comfortable with digital tools, and committed to supporting Jewish education.

Qualifications

Functional Hebrew reading and decoding skills
Familiarity with Jewish prayer (tefillah) and synagogue life
Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Canva, Givebutter, and similar platforms, with the ability to learn new tools quickly
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
Clear, professional communication skills and a collaborative working style
Ability to work independently and take initiative

Key Responsibilities

Maintain student, family, staff, and community records and databases
Prepare attendance sheets, enrollment materials, and weekly administrative documents
Create flyers, newsletters, and communications, and email platforms
Support event registration, participant tracking, and community outreach
Assist the Head of School with ongoing tasks and weekly preparation
Provide classroom support during weekly sessions, including help with Hebrew reading and decoding
Support holiday programs, family learning events, and special programming

Position Details

Hours: 8–10 hours per week

Schedule: Wednesdays 3:30–6:30 p.m. required on-site, plus additional flexible weekday hours

Compensation: $20–25 per hour, commensurate with experience

Location: Syracuse Community Hebrew School, Syracuse, NY
