The nursing instructor is responsible for day-to-day teaching, advising, and clinical, campus lab and simulation supervision. Additional duties include instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees and participation in local, state, and national professional activities. This position requires individuals with knowledge and understanding of the professional career paths and demands of the nursing field, as well as, the ability to inspire students to the highest level of achievement in preparation for those career paths and employer demands.
Salary: Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule D: $42,108 – $94,363 (9 months)
An additional summer assignment may be available: $13,001 – $29,184 (3 months)
Salary placement based on experience and educational level for placement on the Alabama State Salary Schedule D1. Additional salary may be available, but is not guaranteed, for summer employment.

- Deliver high-quality instruction in assigned classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical courses using effective teaching methods, instructional technologies, and student-centered practices. Instruction may be scheduled during the day, evening, or weekend and at any College campus or instructional/clinical site as needed.

Develop, maintain, and continuously update course materials, syllabi, lecture content, assignments, and instructional resources to ensure currency, quality, and compliance with College and program requirements. Utilize the College’s Learning Management System and other instructional technologies to support teaching and learning.

Plan, coordinate, supervise, instruct, and evaluate student learning experiences in clinical, laboratory, and simulation settings, including developing patient assignments and maintaining effective relationships with clinical affiliates.

Ensure compliance with all applicable College policies, nursing program requirements, accreditation standards, clinical affiliate agreements, and safety regulations in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical environments.

Advise and support students through academic planning, course scheduling, career guidance, referrals to appropriate learning resources, and ongoing mentoring to promote student success.

Maintain licensure as a registered nurse in good standing in the State of Alabama and participate in professional development activities, including professional organizations, training, workshops, seminars, and continuing education required to maintain professional competence.

Collaborate with nursing faculty and administrators to ensure curriculum continuity, program quality, and the effective development and scheduling of course offerings each academic term.

Maintain accurate instructional, program, accreditation, compliance, and student records; prepare and submit required reports, documentation, assessments, and other institutional records in a timely manner.

Participate in program and institutional planning, budgeting, institutional effectiveness initiatives, needs assessments, and other activities that support nursing program and College goals.

Request, manage, and maintain instructional materials, equipment, supplies, and other program resources in accordance with College procedures, budget guidelines, and financial requirements.

Serve on College and program committees; attend faculty, staff, advisory committee, and other required meetings; recruit advisory committee members and assist in facilitating at least two advisory committee meetings annually.

Promote and recruit students for the nursing program and the College through outreach activities, community engagement, College-sponsored events, and other recruitment initiatives.

Maintain professional conduct and foster a collaborative, respectful, and ethical work environment when interacting with students, faculty, staff, administrators, clinical partners, and members of the community.

Participate in College and community activities and assist with the orientation and mentoring of new faculty as requested.

Support the enforcement and implementation of College policies, procedures, and standards.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President of Instruction and Student Services, Dean of Instruction, Associate Dean of Health Sciences, College-wide Director of Nursing, or Nursing Division Chair.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A minimum of a Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution is required.

A current unencumbered Alabama Registered (RN) Nursing License or Multi-state Registered Nursing license (MSL) is required.

A current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the healthcare provider level from American Heart Association is required.

A minimum of three (3) years full-time clinical work experience in direct patient care role as a registered nurse is required. Demonstrated expertise in medical surgical experience required and critical care experience preferred.
