Full Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant will provide basic patient care, performs delegated duties, and assist physicians and nurses in a primary care clinic setting. They will be responsible for administrative and clinical duties, including taking and recording vital signs, medical histories, scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, and preparing patients for examination. The Medical Assistant will also assist with basic procedures, administer medications as directed by a physician, and perform laboratory tests. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Lead Medical Assistant / Clinic Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Prepare patients for examination and treatment, including taking vital signs, documenting medical history, and updating patient records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
Assist physicians and nurses with examinations, procedures, and treatments as needed.
Administer medications and immunizations as directed by physician or nurse practitioner.
Perform phlebotomy and collect specimens for laboratory testing; process and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
Perform basic laboratory tests and quality control procedures.
Coordinate with related departments as required. Answers questions and provides assistance to patients regarding clinic services.
Maintain exam rooms, ensuring cleanliness, proper stocking of supplies, and equipment sterilization.
Schedule patient appointments and follow-up visits; manage appointment reminders.
Process prescription refill requests per provider authorization.
Ensure all patient records and related documents are managed and maintained timely, accurately, and consistent with all HIPAA and related regulations and requirements.
Maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment; place orders as necessary.
Provide patient education on medications, treatment plans, and preventive care as directed by provider.
Keep management appropriately informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
Provide various reports as needed.
Present a professional image at all times to clients and vendors and maintain a positive reputation of the company.
Follow all relevant company policies and procedures.
Assists other departments and staff as necessary.
Perform other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations

Current CPR/BLS certification required.
Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or CCMA) preferred.

Education, Experience, and/or Training

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
Minimum 1 year experience in a clinical setting preferred.

Medicine and Dentistry - Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
English Language - Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Speaking - Talking to others to convey information effectively.
Active Listening - Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
Service Orientation - Actively looking for ways to help people.
Social Perceptiveness - Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
Oral Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.
Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
