Middleton Mechanical LLC – Mansfield, Ohio
Full-Time | Year-Round Work
Pay: $24.00–$36.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
Schedule: Monday–Friday, typically 5-10s | Saturdays as necessary

Position Overview
Middleton Mechanical LLC is seeking Fusion Technicians to join our natural gas pipeline construction team.
We are looking for both experienced fusion technicians and mechanically inclined construction workers who want to learn a skilled trade and build a career in the natural gas industry.
This is not a position for someone looking to stand at a fusion machine all day and do nothing else. Our Fusion Technicians are part of the pipeline crew. When fusion work is not being performed, you will be expected to assist with pipeline installation, material handling, equipment, jobsite preparation and other work necessary to keep the crew productive.
For experienced candidates, we are looking for technicians who take pride in their work and understand the responsibility that comes with making a fusion joint that may remain underground and in service for decades.
We do not take shortcuts with natural gas. Neither should you.
Responsibilities
- Perform polyethylene (PE) pipe fusion for natural gas distribution systems
- Perform butt fusion and electrofusion as qualified
- Properly cut, clean, scrape, face, align and prepare PE pipe and fittings
- Set up and operate McElroy and other approved fusion equipment
- Install PE mains, services, fittings, tees and related pipeline components
- Perform service and mainline fusion in accordance with approved procedures
- Inspect completed fusion joints for proper alignment, bead formation and overall quality
- Complete required fusion documentation, records and traceability information
- Follow company, customer and manufacturer fusion procedures without exception
- Inspect fusion equipment and tooling before use and report damaged or defective equipment
- Maintain fusion equipment, heaters, facer blades, clamps, scrapers and associated tools
- Assist with material staging and preparation
- Assist with pipeline installation and other crew activities when fusion work is not being performed
- Work safely around excavations, heavy equipment, traffic and active construction operations
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Adapt to changing jobsite conditions and daily priorities
- Follow all company safety policies and customer requirements
Experience Is Valuable — Attitude Is Required
Experienced Fusion Technicians:
Candidates with natural gas distribution experience, current or previous Operator Qualifications (OQs), McElroy experience, electrofusion experience or extensive PE pipe experience may qualify for placement at a higher technician level and higher starting wage.
New to Fusion:
We are willing to train the right person.
You do not necessarily need previous fusion experience, but you must have a strong construction background, mechanical aptitude and experience working outdoors.
If you have proven that you can work safely, learn procedures, use tools, show up every day and take pride in your work, we can teach you fusion.
What We Expect
We are looking for people who:
- Show up every day and show up on time
- Take personal responsibility for the quality of their work
- Can follow a written procedure exactly
- Understand that shortcuts are unacceptable
- Are mechanically inclined and comfortable using tools and equipment
- Can work independently after being properly trained
- Pay attention to details
- Are willing to learn and accept coaching
- Can work outside year-round in heat, cold, rain, mud and changing conditions
- Are willing to travel for work
- Are willing to work overtime and Saturdays when required
- Will help the crew instead of saying, "That's not my job."
Requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Acceptable driving record
- Reliable transportation to work
- Ability to perform physically demanding construction work
- Ability to lift and handle pipe, fittings, tools and equipment
- Ability to work approximately 50+ hours per week
- Ability and willingness to travel throughout Ohio
- Ability to follow detailed safety and operating procedures
- Previous natural gas, underground utility, pipeline or construction experience preferred
- Previous PE fusion experience strongly preferred for higher technician levels
- Existing natural gas Operator Qualifications (OQs) are a major plus
- Class A CDL is a plus but is not required for all positions
