Inside Claims Representative

SUMMARY
Responsible for the assignment and handling of moderate to complex multi-line insurance claims. Duties include coverage analysis, investigation, liability determination, evaluation of damages, negotiation, settlement, salvage, and subrogation activities. Adjudicates claims within assigned settlement authority while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company guidelines.
Senior Inside Claims Representatives also handle claims with increased complexity, including coordination and oversight of Independent Adjusters assigned to both in-state and out-of-state claims. This role additionally assists with training and mentoring new Inside Claims Representatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Documents claim files promptly, clearly, and accurately with all relevant investigative findings.
Evaluates policy coverage, gathers evidence and documentation, and determines applicability of coverage for assigned losses.
Establishes, evaluates, and maintains individual case reserves in accordance with the Claims Department Reserving Philosophy.
Applies appropriate legal principles when assessing liability and throughout the claim adjudication process.
Negotiates liability and damages with insureds, claimants, adverse carriers, attorneys, and other involved parties.
Prepares detailed written correspondence explaining investigation findings, policy application, and other claim handling activities.
Assigns injury claims to the appropriate claim handler within the casualty discipline.
Determines the value of covered damages and adjudicates claims within settlement authority. When necessary, presents valuation documentation to the Claims Supervisor for additional authority.
Coordinates with outside vendors for estimate reviews, appraisal services, and official reports.
Performs subrogation activities to recover loss payments from responsible parties.
Assists in the handling of claims at other claim levels as necessary and within authority limits.
Assists with storm claims operations as needed.
Provides training support to new or less experienced claims personnel as needed.
Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers and maintains strong working relationships with field and Home Office personnel.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Inside Claims Representative – bachelor’s degree required. Additional related work experience may be substituted for the formal education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Senior Inside Claims Representative – bachelor’s degree required. Additional related work experience may be substituted for the formal education requirement on a year-for-year basis. Requires five years of moderate to complex multi-line claims experience and completion of the Associate in Claims (AIC) designation. Seven years of moderate to complex multi-line claims experience may be substituted for the AIC designation requirement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to learn and operate claims-related software systems.
Ability to manage a high volume of detailed work with accuracy and efficiency.
Ability to research, analyze information, and exercise sound professional judgment.

Willingness and availability for occasional overnight travel.
Must maintain a valid Missouri Driver License.
