Assistant Manager / Operations Manager

Canterbury Hill Winery & Restaurant

Position Overview

Canterbury Hill Winery & Restaurant is seeking a dependable, motivated, and highly organized Assistant Manager / Operations Manager to work closely with and provide daily support to the General Manager and ownership team.

The Operations Manager will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and successful operation of the winery, restaurant, and event business. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in providing exceptional customer service, and is comfortable taking initiative while also following direction from the General Manager and owner.

Restaurant, winery, hospitality, and/or event experience is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

The Operations Manager will assist with the daily oversight and management of the business, including but not limited to:

Overseeing day-to-day restaurant, winery, and event operations.
Assisting the General Manager with daily operational planning and execution.
Providing leadership, direction, and support to staff while maintaining a positive and professional work environment.
Delegating responsibilities and supervising employees to ensure tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
Providing timely, constructive feedback to employees and helping promote employee development and retention.
Maintaining strong customer relationships and ensuring guests receive an exceptional experience from arrival through departure.
Assisting with sales, customer inquiries, event coordination, and follow-up.
Supporting the planning, marketing, setup, execution, and breakdown of weddings, private parties, and other in-house events.
Helping coordinate event details and ensuring that clients' needs and expectations are met.
Assisting with inventory control, ordering, purchasing, and maintaining appropriate product levels.
Monitoring cleanliness, organization, maintenance, and overall appearance of the property and facilities.
Identifying operational issues and communicating them promptly to the General Manager and ownership.
Helping ensure company policies, procedures, and service standards are consistently followed.
Working alongside staff when needed and leading by example.
Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the General Manager or owner.

Qualifications & Skills

The ideal candidate will possess:

Previous experience in restaurant, hospitality, winery, event, or management operations.
Strong leadership and people-management skills.
Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
Clear, professional, and effective communication skills.
The ability to multitask and remain calm and productive in a busy environment.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow through on responsibilities.
A strong work ethic and willingness to lead by example.
Honesty, integrity, dependability, and professionalism.
The ability to accept direction from the General Manager and owner while also taking initiative and making sound decisions when appropriate.
The ability to effectively delegate, supervise, and hold team members accountable.
A genuine desire to serve others and create memorable experiences for guests and event clients.
A valid driver's license.

Work Environment & Expectations

This is a hands-on, physically active management position. The Operations Manager should be prepared to work long and/or late hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during busy event periods. The role may require standing for extended periods, lifting and moving items, assisting with event setup and breakdown, and stepping in wherever needed to ensure successful operations.

While the position can be demanding, it is also highly rewarding. Helping couples celebrate their wedding day, assisting families and guests with special events, and creating memorable experiences for customers are an important part of what makes this position fulfilling.
