Job Title: Mechanical DesignerJob Description
This role offers the opportunity to join a small, customer-focused engineering team as a Mechanical Designer/Drafter. You will collaborate closely with project engineers to update existing drawings and create new models and fabrication drawings for customer parts, starting with simpler components and progressing to full machinery and assembly models over time.
Responsibilities-
Collaborate with project engineers to receive design requirements, technical information, and project specifications.

Update existing mechanical drawings to reflect design changes, improvements, and customer revisions.

Create new detailed drawings and 3D models of customer parts that need to be fabricated, ensuring accuracy and manufacturability.

Begin with simple parts and progressively take on more complex components, assemblies, and full model drawings.

Use SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor to perform mechanical design, 3D modeling, and drafting activities.

Produce clear, complete, and accurate mechanical drawings and documentation in accordance with company standards and industry best practices.

Design machinery components and sheet metal parts as required by customer projects.

Utilize AutoCAD when needed for 2D drafting or legacy drawing updates.

Participate in customer interactions and occasional travel, approximately 20% of the time, to gather requirements, review designs, and support project execution.

Work closely with engineers and other designers to ensure designs meet functional, quality, and fabrication requirements.

Support a customer-centric mindset by focusing on doing work correctly the first time and delivering high-quality design outputs.

Manage workload to meet deadlines within a 40-hour workweek, with limited overtime, while maintaining attention to detail.
Essential Skills-
At least 3 years of experience in mechanical design, drafting, or a closely related role.

Proficiency with SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor for mechanical design and 3D modeling.

Hands-on experience with mechanical drafting and design, including creating detailed fabrication drawings.

Experience designing machinery components and assemblies.

Ability to create and update sheet metal part designs and drawings.

Familiarity with AutoCAD for 2D drafting and drawing updates.

Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing considerations.

Ability to interpret engineering information and translate it into accurate models and drawings.

Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, error-free documentation.

Effective communication skills for working with engineers, designers, and customers.

Ability to travel and interact with customers as needed, up to approximately 20% of the time.
Additional Skills & Qualifications-
Degree not required when supported by relevant mechanical design and drafting experience.

An associate degree in a related field is preferred for candidates with limited experience.

Experience working in small engineering or design teams.

Customer-focused mindset with an emphasis on doing work correctly the first time.

Ability to adapt to evolving responsibilities, moving from simple part drawings to full model and assembly design.
Work Environment
This position is part of a small, collaborative team that includes a director, four engineers, and two designers, offering a close-knit and supportive environment. The company emphasizes a customer-centric approach, focusing on high-quality work and getting designs right the first time. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility to start slightly earlier or later as needed. The role is structured as a 40-hour workweek with limited overtime. The dress code ranges from business casual to casual, reflecting a practical and comfortable workplace focused on productivity and teamwork. You will work with modern mechanical design tools such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, and AutoCAD, supporting a variety of machinery and sheet metal design projects.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $41.00/hr.
