Position Title: Post-Secondary Preparation Coordinator, el Centro de Estudiantes
Position Type: 12-month, salaried position + benefits

About Big Picture Philadelphia
Big Picture Philadelphia (BPP) challenges systemic inequities in education by providing transformative learning experiences at two public high schools in North Philadelphia — El Centro de Estudiantes (El Centro) and Vaux Big Picture High School (Vaux). As proud members of the Big Picture Learning network, we build on students’ strengths, help them identify their interests, and connect them to their passions-- within and outside the school building. Our integrated, community-focused approach to education and personal development ensures students build the skills, confidence, networks, and credentials needed to achieve their personal, academic, and career goals.

Position Description
The Post-Secondary Preparation Coordinator will interact with students, families, graduates/alumni, and school staff to ensure students are enrolled in coursework aligned to their academic needs, on track to complete all graduation requirements, and prepared to pursue their post-secondary interests. The Post-Secondary Preparation Coordinator reports to the Principal of el Centro de Estudiantes and works closely with BPP’s Director of Post-Secondary Systems and Supports to ensure that graduates are equipped to execute their post-secondary plans.

Responsibilities
High School Progression and Graduation Support

Foster and support a culture of academic excellence and ambitious post-secondary planning.
Ensure all students have an individualized learning plan and accurate credit map that reflects their interests and accomplishments, and minimizes time to graduation.
Provide both one-on-one and small group support to students on all aspects of the post-secondary planning process (including, but not limited to, opportunity search and selection, application completion, essay writing, preparing to take admissions tests, navigating financial aid, and securing scholarships, etc.).
Work in partnership with the Director of Special Education and Testing to coordinate college prep testing for all students (ACT and/or SAT).
Obtain and document IEP Transition Plan information from the Director of Special Education and Testing for compliance purposes; support the relationship with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation and other post-secondary programs for individuals with special needs.
Implement and monitor Naviance progress with all students according to the School District of Philadelphia requirements and timeline.
Work with post-secondary staff across campuses to plan and implement college access events and post-secondary opportunity fairs.
Proactively engage post-secondary programs and institutions to support students’ access, enrollment and retention.

Post-Secondary Transition Support

Support students and recent graduates in the transition process to post-secondary education, workforce programs and/or career track employment.
Support students and recent graduates to build the skills and awareness necessary to manage new expectations and effectively balance competing priorities associated with post-secondary life.
Maintain an up-to-date database of alumni contact information and post-secondary pursuits.
Work with academic, positive support, and resiliency staff to maintain relationships with alumni through visits, phone contact, and ongoing programming.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field required
Minimum of two years experience teaching and/or advising in an urban school or higher education setting strongly preferred
Familiarity with, and willingness to learn and adhere to, PA State Act 158 High School Graduation requirements
Experience working with a diverse population in their efforts to set and pursue higher education and career goals strongly preferred
Thorough understanding of and enthusiasm for the Big Picture Philadelphia mission
Commitment to practices that foster diversity, equity and inclusion

Skills and Abilities

Enthusiasm for establishing and promoting effective working relationships with students and alumni, as well as staff across all levels and functions of the organization
Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a diverse, complex, and fast paced work environment
Knowledge of public education
Commitment to communicate proactively and regularly with supervisors and colleagues around progress, obstacles, and needs
Proficiency in common computer software applications and willingness to learn new applications and systems as needed
Strong analytical, oral, and written communication skills

Compensation
The Post-Secondary Preparation Coordinator is a full time employee eligible for a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, vision, dental, optional long term disability insurance, and a 401k retirement plan with employer matching. Salary is commensurate with experience.
