At Highlands Oncology's CARE Clinic, our Medical Assistants play a vital role in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals facing cancer and complex health challenges. Highlands Oncology began in 1996 with three physicians and a desire to change the face of oncology care in our community. Dr. Malcolm Hayward, Dr. Dan Bradford, and Dr. Thad Beck knew that patients do better at home, in the community where they live and work, and where their support system is already in place. In furthering that goal, Highlands has grown with the region from a single location 26 years ago, to 6 locations in Northwest and Northcentral Arkansas today employing more than 750 diverse team members.

As Northwest Arkansas continues to grow, so must the services and providers available in the region. Highlands Oncology is committed to remaining on the cutting edge to ensure our community has access to the very best cancer care. What we have is something quite unique right here in our own backyard with a caring multidisciplinary team focused on treating patients like family.

Job Summary:

Assist in the delivery of patient care and EMR utilization.

Work directly with advance practice providers in CARE Clinic

Job Duties / Responsibilities:

Includes, but not limited to the following categories below:

Lead MA for CARE Clinic- PRN

Works with patient population who are at high risk for cancer or have had cancer previously, but do not currently have cancer.
Obtain and document height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and oxygen saturation. Report abnormal readings/findings.
Enter patient’s allergies, medications, medical, social, surgical, and family histories, cancer screenings, as well as, referring and patient’s other physicians
Review patient’s medication list and keep it up to date
Report patient complaints, questions, or concerns
Chart prep
Fee tickets
Comply with MIPS requirements
Prepare patients for examination and/or procedures
Keep exam and procedure rooms stocked with necessary supplies, linens, and instruments
Assist with completion of professional billing
Assist with CPOE – computerized physician order entry
May call patients with normal lab or diagnostic results
Assist PA/NP with tasks as needed

Hours:

PRN for vacation coverage of our full-time staff AND Mondays from 12:30p-5p

Requirements/Skills/Abilities:

Proficient in use of the EMR (electronic medical record)
Attend required meetings and participate in a constructive manner
Maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPAA rules and regulations.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, patients, medical staff, and the public.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to communicate clearly.
All clinical knowledge, skills, and abilities to be evaluated during the first 90-days of hire and then on an annual basis thereafter.
Perform related work as required.

Certifications/Licenses/Education/or Experience in a related field:

Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program or on the job training equivalent
Registered Medical Assistant preferred
BLS certification

Physical Requirements:

Stamina and endurance – prolonged standing and walking for significant positions of each shift, which may consist of long hours.
Strength and mobility – lifting and transferring patients in moving, repositioning, or transferring from wheelchairs or exam tables in addition to the possibility of moving medical equipment such as wheelchairs, IV stands, etc.
Manual dexterity is required for precise hand movements related to inserting IV lines, handling instruments, and drawing blood.
Physical Coordination needed for responding to emergencies quickly and efficiently along with fine motor skills that allow for good hand-eye coordination and steady hands.
Flexibility and agility for reaching, bending, stooping, and quick adaptation to patient needs.
Visual and auditory acuity is required for reading medical charts, monitoring patient vitals, and detecting physical changes in patients. Good hearing is needed to hear alarms, monitor beeping, and verbal communication from patients and coworkers.
Good posture and proper body mechanics are key in performing repetitive and non-repetitive tasks.
Physical resilience is needed to handle challenging situations like multiple patients with varying degrees of mobility and health.
