Full Job Description

THE POSITION

The Therapeutic Activities Worker with Torrance State Hospital helps patients build confidence, skills, and independence through meaningful activities. This role lets you support treatment plans in a positive and encouraging environment. You will support patient progress by leading activities that build creativity and personal growth. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the development, delivery, and evaluation of therapeutic activities that help patients meet their treatment goals. The role requires creativity, teamwork, and careful planning to meet individual needs. As a Therapeutic Activities Worker, you will perform the following duties:

Activity Planning: Design activities that support treatment goals and reflect patient strengths and needs
Treatment Collaboration: Work with the treatment team to provide recommendations and integrate program goals
Progress Monitoring: Observe patient participation and document progress for clinical records
Group Facilitation: Lead therapeutic groups across program areas such as recreation, socialization, and sensory awareness
Referral Coordination: Screen patient needs and prepare referrals for additional therapeutic services
Safety Support: Escort patients during activities and ensure safe and clean program areas

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
Work hours are 12:30 PM to 8:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Four years of experience providing therapeutic activities for individuals with physical, medical, or cognitive disabilities; or
A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in therapeutic recreation; physical education; vocational rehabilitation; vocational education or counseling; art, music, dance, or occupational therapies; or a related human services field; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.

This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
