SITION TITLE: Plasma Table Operator and Fabrication Leader
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports to the Fabrication Manager
BASIC FUNCTION: This position has two roles: (1) Directly operate plasma cutting tables; and (2) Supervision of approximately five (5) employees in the plasma table, deburring, material handling and press brake areas.
PLASMA TABLE OPERATOR DUTIES: The Plasma Table Operator is responsible for operating CNC plasma cutting equipment to produce high-quality parts and components for new production and aftermarket service parts.
- Operate and monitor CNC plasma cutting tables safely and efficiently.
- Use ProNest software to nest parts for cutting by material type and thickness.
- Read and interpret drawings, work orders, and production schedules.
- Load and unload steel plate, parts and materials using overhead cranes or forklifts.
- Perform plasma machine setup, calibration, and routine maintenance.
- Inspect finished parts to ensure conformance to print.
- Maintain proper material inventory and organize cut parts for downstream production.
- Troubleshoot machine or programming issues and communicate with maintenance department as needed.
- Respond to short notice “hot” jobs to support production and aftermarket service parts.
FABRICATION LEADER DUTIES: Supervise employees and manage production processes in the plasma table, deburring, material handling and press brake areas.
- Coordinate the scheduling of fabrication jobs with the Fabrication Manager to support the production schedule.
- Work with Procurement to manage raw plate and sheet inventory to ensure adequate stock to support production.
- Work with Procurement to order consumables for the Plasma tables, filters for dust collectors and other fabrication department MRO material as needed.
- Coordinate semi-annual removal of sludge from the water submersion plasma table.
- Review timecards for employees under your supervision in the ERP system.
- Use search functions of the ERP system to check status of materials, jobs, etc.
- Manage the labor under your supervision to fill in for absent employees.
- Onboard and train new employees. Cross-train existing employees.
- Ensure that Fabrication employees conform to GapVax standards for quality and workmanship and that work is being performed in accordance with drawings.
- Perform designated quality control functions, inventory control, and general shop maintenance as directed.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase productivity and reduce waste.
- Lead by example to ensure all safety rules and company policies are followed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- 3–5 years experience operating plasma tables in a manufacturing environment. Similar experience with plasma cutting systems such as Hypertherm, Messer, etc.
- 2-3 years experience using nesting software like ProNest or SigmaNest
- 2-3 years experience operating press brakes and deburring equipment, which fall under the supervisory responsibilities of this position.
- 2-3 years experience in a supervisory/leadership position
- Strong understanding of fabrication processes and metal cutting operations
- Good computer and CNC programming skills
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems related to production jobs and parts
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
