Versant Diagnostics is a rapidly growing physician services company focused on Digital Anatomic Pathology and is leading the revolution to improve the precision, accuracy, and speed of diagnosis.
We are seeking a motivated and team-oriented Pathologists' Assistant (PA) to join our growing pathology team. This position is primarily based in Joliet, Illinois, with regular coverage responsibilities in Aurora, Illinois. The successful candidate will work closely with pathologists and laboratory staff to support high-quality surgical pathology services across multiple hospital locations.
The sites represent a diverse mix of specimen types and case complexity. This role offers exposure to a broad range of pathology specimens, from routine biopsies to complex oncologic resections.
Primary Responsibilities
· Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens, including:
- Routine surgical specimens
- Small biopsies
- Complex cancer resections and oncologic cases
- Assist pathologists with intraoperative consultations and frozen section procedures.
- Ensure accurate specimen handling, documentation, and compliance with laboratory standards.
- Maintain detailed gross descriptions and photography as appropriate.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
- Assist with pathology administration, data collection, performance metrics, and QA reporting.
- Collaborate effectively with pathologists, histology personnel, operating room staff, and laboratory leadership.
- Provide coverage at both Joliet and Aurora hospitals as operational needs require.
- Serve as backup coverage for other Pathologists' Assistants during PTO, leave, and other staffing needs.
Qualifications
· Master's degree from a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists' Assistant program.
- ASCP certification (PA(ASCP)) or eligibility for certification.
- Strong grossing skills across a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
- Experience with frozen sections preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while functioning effectively within a collaborative team environment.
- Flexibility to travel between practice locations and provide cross-site support.
