About This Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Accountant will help ensure that every dollar entrusted to our organization is managed with accuracy, integrity, transparency, and accountability.

What You’ll Do

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys meaningful work, and supporting a mission that's focused on youth and community development. As our Accountant, you will play an important role across the organization’s day-to-day accounting operations. Key responsibilities will include:

General Accounting and Close

· Record daily transactions and monthly journal entries; maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.

· Reconcile bank, investment, and balance-sheet accounts; review accruals and prepaid expenses.

· Maintain fixed-asset records and depreciation schedules.

· Complete month-end and year-end close activities, including reconciliations and supporting schedules.

Fund and Grant Accounting

· Maintain records for net assets with and without donor restrictions; track donor-restricted contributions and releases from restriction.

· Allocate expenses appropriately among program, fundraising, and management and general functions.

· Record grant revenue in accordance with donor agreements and applicable accounting standards; monitor grant expenditures against approved budgets.

· Prepare grantor financial reports and support grant budgets, allowable-cost monitoring, and compliance with applicable requirements, including Uniform Guidance when applicable.

Financial Reporting, Budgeting, and Analysis

· Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports; occasionally present financial information to leadership at the CFO’s request.

· Prepare budget-to-actual variance analyses, cash-flow forecasts, and other forecasts.

· Support the CFO in developing the annual operating budget and preparing reports for leadership, department managers, and the Board.

· Analyze trends, identify cost-saving opportunities, and provide financial information supporting operational and strategic decisions.

Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Payroll

· Perform accounts-receivable and accounts-payable activities, including invoicing, receivables monitoring, donor receivable and pledge reconciliations, collections, weekly disbursements, and vendor-payment review.

· Process biweekly payroll as assigned, or review payroll in unusual circumstances when delegated by the CFO; record allocations by department and grant.

· Reconcile payroll entries, liabilities, and benefit expenses; prepare quarterly and annual reconciliations and support payroll audits.

Audit, Compliance, and Internal Controls

· Support the annual financial statement audit, Form 990 preparation, and any applicable Single Audit or compliance audit by preparing workpapers and responding to auditor requests.

· Follow internal controls and procedures; monitor segregation of duties and help identify and mitigate financial risks.

· Maintain accounting policies and procedures; recommend improvements and help implement audit recommendations or corrective actions assigned by the CFO.

Inventory

· Maintain inventory accounting records; reconcile inventory subledgers to the general ledger monthly; and record purchases, adjustments, transfers, and write-offs in accordance with GAAP.

· Apply the approved costing method and monitor inventory levels to support planning and replenishment.

· Help direct twice-yearly physical counts and the annual inventory audit under established goals and processes.

· Work across departments to track vehicles, tools, equipment, supplies, marketing materials, and merchandise; participate in ordering, pickup, delivery, and other hands-on inventory activities as needed.

Collaboration and Service

· Partner with development and program staff on donor revenue, grant budgets, and reporting; provide responsive, accurate financial information while maintaining confidentiality and sound stewardship.

What We’re Looking For

Successful candidates will bring strong technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a collaborative, service-oriented approach.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
Three to five years of professional accounting experience.
Payroll-processing experience.
Demonstrated experience with financial reporting, annual audits, and Form 990 support.
Strong working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
Advanced Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets skills.
Strong analytical, organizational, time-management, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
High ethical standards and a commitment to confidentiality.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

At least three years of nonprofit accounting experience.
Experience with fund accounting, grant accounting, donor restrictions, and nonprofit financial reporting.
Budgeting and forecasting experience.
Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance and/or CPA designation.
Experience with QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Blackbaud Financial Edge, NetSuite, or a comparable accounting platform.
Experience with donor or CRM systems, including Salsa.
Experience with payroll platforms, including Gusto.
Experience working with diverse communities and a demonstrated passion for nonprofit missions.
