Director of Operations

Luxury Custom Home Builder | Palm Beach County, Florida

About Us

We are a premier luxury custom home builder serving Palm Beach County, specializing in highly customized waterfront estates, oceanfront residences, country club homes, and architecturally significant projects ranging from $5 million to $35 million+. Our reputation is built on exceptional craftsmanship, proactive communication, financial discipline, and delivering an unmatched client experience.

We are seeking an experienced Director of (Construction) Operations to lead and optimize operational aspects of our business, ensuring projects are executed efficiently, profitably, and to the highest standards of quality.

Position Summary

The Director of Operations will be responsible for overseeing the company's day-to-day operations, including project execution, construction management, scheduling, financial performance, staffing, systems development, and process improvement. This role serves as a key member of the leadership team and works closely with ownership, project managers, superintendents, clients, architects, and trade partners.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing luxury residential construction projects and teams, with a proven track record of driving operational excellence in a high-end custom home environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership

Lead all construction operations from preconstruction through project closeout.
Establish and maintain operational standards, procedures, and best practices.
Develop scalable systems to support continued company growth.
Monitor workload, staffing, and resource allocation across all active projects.
Drive accountability throughout the organization while fostering a positive company culture.

Project Oversight

Oversee multiple luxury custom home projects ranging from $5M to $35M+.
Review project schedules, budgets, procurement plans, and staffing needs.
Identify and proactively address project risks, delays, and budget challenges.
Ensure projects meet company standards for quality, safety, schedule, and client satisfaction.
Conduct regular project reviews with Project Managers and Superintendents.

Financial Management

Monitor project profitability, cash flow, WIP reporting, and overall company performance.
Review budgets, change orders, cost forecasting, and monthly financial reporting.
Partner with ownership and accounting to improve operational and financial controls.
Establish KPI dashboards and performance metrics for projects and departments.

Team Development

Lead, mentor, and develop Project Managers, Superintendents, and support staff.
Participate in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and performance management.
Build a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
Create career development pathways for operational team members.

Client & Industry Relations

Maintain strong relationships with homeowners, architects, designers, engineers, and trade partners.
Support business development efforts and participate in client presentations when needed.
Represent the company with professionalism in all client-facing interactions.

Process & Technology

Evaluate and implement construction management software, reporting tools, and operational systems.
Improve document control, procurement processes, and project communication workflows.
Develop standard operating procedures to enhance consistency and efficiency.

QualificationsRequired

10+ years of construction management experience.
5+ years in a senior leadership role overseeing multiple projects and teams.
Experience managing luxury custom residential construction projects valued at $5M+.
Strong understanding of project scheduling, budgeting, estimating, and financial management.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple high-profile projects simultaneously.
Proficiency with construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or related field.
Experience in South Florida's luxury residential market.
Knowledge of waterfront construction, estate residences, and high-end finishes.
Experience with Buildertrend, Procore, CoConstruct, or similar platforms.

Competitive base salary: $150,000 – $250,000+ (commensurate with experience)
