Full Job Description

Position: Controller

Reports To: Executive Management

Employment Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Start Date: Immediate

Annual Salary: starting from $125,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Primary Work Location: Big Island, Hawaii; On-site

Position Overview

Hawaii Restaurant Group seeks an accomplished accounting professional to lead financial operations for Hawaii based restaurants. This role will guide the group toward financial excellence including legal compliance and accounting best practices and provide financial consultation to operational leaders to support profitability.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Compliance

Prepare Monthly Statements: Generate accurate Profit and Loss (P&L) statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
Manage Month-End Close: Oversee the closing process for all restaurant locations.
Regulatory Compliance: Handle local tax preparation, corporate filings (with BNN), and payroll compliance.
Prepare Monthly Management Presentations: fiscal performance and considerations, capital expenditures and progress.

Cost Control & Prime Cost Operations

Monitor Prime Costs: Track and analyze weekly food, beverage, and labor costs against targets.
Menu Engineering: Collaborate with chefs and VP of Operations to analyze recipe costing, waste, and menu item profitability.
Inventory Auditing: Supervise routine and surprise physical inventory counts to prevent pilferage. Reviews Monthly inventory.
POS Verification: Audit Point of Sale (POS) system data for discounts, voids, and comp tracking.

Treasury & Daily Accounting Oversight

Cash Flow Management: Monitor multi-unit store cash drops, safe balances, and working capital.
Accounts Payable (AP): Oversee vendor payments, negotiate supplier terms, and audit invoice accuracy.
Payroll Processing: Supervise tip allocations, hourly wage calculations, and management bonuses.

Strategy & Budgeting

Annual Budgeting: Assist with annual operating budgets and restaurant-level revenue targets.
Variance Analysis: Identify and explain weekly performance deviations from budgeted projections.

Qualifications

Proven leader who has held a Controller or Assistant Controller role with oversight of all related accounting functions. The ideal candidate possesses experience in the restaurant industry or related industry with food and beverage operations with oversight over multiple units. The ideal candidate is a systems administrator who is comfortable mastering related financial platforms including point-of-sale and payroll systems, inventory and cost control systems, and invoice processing systems.
