Job Title: Family Services Coordinator
Reports To: Program Director Location: The Landing Place Family Shelter. Kalamazoo, MI
Status: Full-Time FLSA Status: Salary, Non-Exempt
Compensation: $52,000–$60,000 annually, comprehensive benefits package, paid time off, paid holidays, and floating holiday.
Position Summary
The Family Services Coordinator provides comprehensive, family-centered, and trauma-informed case management services to families residing in emergency shelters. This role supports the organization’s mission, “Prevent and end homelessness for families with children and help them to achieve sustainable independence through a community based response.” by partnering with families to develop and implement individualized housing stabilization plans that lead to permanent housing. The Family Services Coordinator maintains an active caseload and works collaboratively with families to assess needs, identify barriers to housing, coordinate resources, and monitor progress toward shared goals.
Essential Responsibilities
Case Management & Family Support
- Maintain an assigned caseload of families residing in emergency shelter.
- Provide strengths-based, family-centered, and trauma-informed case management services.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify barriers to housing, income, health, and stability.
- Develop individualized housing stabilization plans in partnership with each family.
- Meet with families at least weekly to review progress, adjust plans, and provide ongoing support.
- Support families in securing permanent housing, including housing search, landlord engagement, housing applications, barrier mitigation and problem-solving.
Service Coordination & Advocacy
- Connect families to community resources, including employment services, public benefits, childcare, healthcare, and behavioral health services.
- Advocate on behalf of families with landlords, property managers, and service providers.
- Collaborate with internal shelter staff to ensure coordinated and consistent support.
- Collaborate with community partners and maintain a comprehensive understanding of community resources to enhance service delivery and housing outcomes.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete data entry in accordance with agency and funder requirements.
- Complete required assessments and documentation within established timelines.
- Track and monitor progress toward housing outcomes and program goals.
Professional Practice
- Maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards consistent with social work practice.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
- Contribute to a safe, respectful, and culturally responsive shelter environment.
Additional Assigned Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of the agency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work (BSW) or related human services field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required.
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) preferred.
- Experience providing case management, housing services, or direct support to families experiencing housing instability or related barriers preferred.
- Experience using HMIS or similar case management data systems to maintain accurate records and track program outcomes preferred.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, housing-first principles, and family systems approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive assessments, develop individualized service plans, and maintain timely documentation.
- Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated cultural humility and ability to work with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple cases and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment effectively.
- Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record required for operating agency vehicles in support of program needs.
- Ability to pass required background checks.

Work Environment
This position operates within the Landing Place emergency shelter, a residential setting serving families with children experiencing homelessness. This role involves direct, on-site engagement with families and collaboration with multidisciplinary staff. Occasional evening hours may be required based on family availability and program needs.
