Position Summary
The Product Owner – Finance (Workday ERP) is responsible for leading the implementation, optimization, and long-term ownership of the Workday Financial Management platform for our insurance organization. This individual will serve as the strategic business owner of the Workday Finance product, partnering closely with Finance, Accounting, Procurement, IT, Internal Audit, and implementation partners to deliver a modern, scalable, and efficient enterprise financial platform.
This role will initially lead the Workday ERP implementation from planning through deployment, ensuring business processes and financial requirements are translated into effective Workday solutions. Following go-live, the Product Owner will serve as the functional owner and administrator of the Workday Financial Management platform, driving continuous improvements, governance, user adoption, and future product enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
Workday ERP Implementation Leadership
Serve as the business Product Owner for the Workday Financial Management implementation.
Define and prioritize the product roadmap, implementation backlog, and business requirements.
Partner with implementation consultants, Finance leadership, IT, and business stakeholders throughout the implementation lifecycle.
Lead finance process design workshops and requirements gathering sessions.
Oversee solution design, configuration decisions, testing, data validation, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
Ensure project milestones are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business objectives.
Support organizational change management, training, and user readiness activities.
Product Ownership
Own the long-term vision, roadmap, and strategy for the Workday Finance platform.
Prioritize enhancements and new capabilities based on business value and enterprise priorities.
Balance operational needs, compliance requirements, technical capabilities, and user experience.
Establish governance for enhancement requests, product releases, and platform standards.
Serve as the primary liaison between Finance, Accounting, Procurement, IT, and executive leadership.
Workday Administration & Optimization
Serve as the primary functional administrator for Workday Financial Management after implementation.
Maintain system configuration, business processes, security roles, workflows, organizations, and financial structures.
Coordinate Workday biannual releases, regression testing, and adoption of new functionality.
Manage production support, issue resolution, system documentation, and enhancement requests.
Continuously evaluate business processes and identify opportunities for automation, standardization, and operational efficiency.
Ensure system stability, performance, and scalability.
Financial Operations Support
Partner with Accounting, Finance, FP&A, Procurement, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Treasury teams to optimize financial processes.
Support financial close activities through system improvements and reporting capabilities.
Maintain accounting structures including chart of accounts, cost centers, organizations, and financial dimensions.
Support budgeting, forecasting, spend management, procurement, and supplier management initiatives.
Data, Reporting & Compliance
Ensure financial data integrity across the Workday platform.
Partner with Finance leadership to develop dashboards, reports, and executive analytics.
Support internal controls, audit requirements, SOX compliance, and regulatory reporting.
Ensure financial processes align with accounting policies and insurance industry regulatory requirements.
Vendor & Release Management
Manage relationships with Workday and implementation partners.
Evaluate new Workday functionality and recommend adoption where appropriate.
Coordinate release planning, testing, deployment, and communication activities.
Develop governance standards for production support and future enhancements.
