Summary

About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency, located at Tripler Army Medical Center, Directorate of Education, Training & Research, Department of Clinical Investigation, Research Pharmacy, Honolulu, Hawaii.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Obtain, process and inventory all specimens from research subjects, in vitro cell models and animal models.
Ensure all data is accurately identified for computer accessing of research subject assay results and properly categorized experimental groups, research subjects assay results.
Perform hormone ELISA and blood chemistry assays, biochemical and molecular biological assays, quantitative real-time PCR, flow cytometry, and genome sequencing and supervise the proper storage and processing of all specimen.
Responsible for performing special assays, processing human and animal specimens for generating publishable validated data to contribute to scientific peer-reviewed journals and training of GME residents.
Maintain clear and accurate laboratory records and report abnormal lab results to professional investigators for interpretation and comparison of results in scientific articles.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series, unless exempted by a licensed physician.
This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements described in 5 CFR Part 315.
This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination, unless exempted by a licensed physician.
This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service which includes performing life sciences laboratory research, endocrinology and biomarker assays, and animal specimen processing. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

OR

Education: Two years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as biology, microbiology, or biochemistry. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
