Full Job Description

The City of Valley Center is looking for an accounting/bookkeeping candidate. The ideal candidate will possess great customer service skills, a positive attitude, the ability to think critically and logically when presented with a problem or situation they have not encountered, not afraid to ask questions, and the ability to complete their assigned tasks in a timely manner.

This position is responsible for but not limited to general ledger and bank statement reconciliation, financial reporting, special projects, assisting the Finance Director in budget creation and capital project expenditure management. This position requires the ability to perform accounting and finance functions in maintaining the fiscal records and systems of the City. The position requires independent judgement with little supervision and excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and public relation skills. Starting pay for this position is $21.80 to $32.70 depending on qualifications.

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or related field is preferred. New graduates are encouraged to apply. Any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience, with additional work experience substituting for the preferred education on a year for year basis is also welcome to apply. Municipal experience preferred.

Candidate should Microsoft Office proficient and possess above average or better Microsoft Excel skills.

Knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping principles and budgeting is preferred. The ability to follow policies and procedures and to interpret written instructions, proposals, reports, and financial statements is required.
