Summary: Assists with the functions of the Young People's Section
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assists as assigned with development and delivery of all programs and services offered through the Young People’s Section.
- Assists with the clerical tasks and duties of the Young People’s Section including processing materials, preparing for programs, photocopying, etc.
- Assists with creation and distribution of promotional materials to promote library events, programs and services, including but not limited to those conducted through the Young People’s Section.
- Assists with collection development & acquisitions in the Young People’s Section.
- Assists with maintaining the safety, security and order of the library including patron supervision and discipline.
- Assists with shelving, shelf-reading, and straightening materials in the Young People’s Section.
- Assists patrons in the Young People’s Section with searching for and locating materials in that section and with advance retrieval of materials upon request for teachers, childcare providers, parents, and other patrons as appropriate.
- Assists patrons in the Young People’s Section with Reference and reader’s advisory, including queries presented in-person, by mail, by telephone and by email.
- Assists patrons in the Young People’s Section with use of internet service, including use of equipment, searching for information, and printing.
- Assists patrons in the Young People’s Section with use of online databases and information sources.
- Assists at the Circulation Desk as needed.
General
- Assists with special and ongoing projects as assigned by immediate supervisor and/or administrative staff.
- Maintains a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that facilitates positive professional relationships with patrons, co-workers and management.
- Maintains the standards for customer service as given in the Customer Service Policy

Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

Other Skills and Abilities
Ability to speak and understand some Spanish desirable.

Pay: $13.16 - $17.01 per hour
