About the Role
We are a growing, diversified enterprise spanning production agriculture, livestock, equipment management, land holdings, and select non-Ag business interests across Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado. We are seeking a detail-oriented, Ag-literate Senior Bookkeeper / Staff Accountant to manage daily general ledger activity, intercompany clearing, debt schedules, and financial reporting across multiple operating entities.
This role is structured for up to 40 hours per week based on business demand, month-end closing cycles, and tax prep schedules. You will report directly to our Office Manager/CFO and GM, partnering with our local team for document intake and AP/AR so you can focus on maintaining clean, audit-ready books and generating accurate financial packages.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Statement Preparation: Compile accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial packages—including Balance Sheets, Profit & Loss (P&L) statements, and Cash Flow Statements—for individual entities and on a consolidated basis.
- Cash Flow & Liquidity Tracking: Build and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts to track operating line of credit (LOC) draws, payback timing, crop/livestock revenue cycles, and major capital outlays.
- Variance Analysis: Produce monthly budget-vs-actual variance reports using Figured and Excel to identify cost overruns, yield impacts, and operational trends for executive review.
- Multi-Entity General Ledger (GL) Management: Execute daily and weekly bookkeeping across multiple distinct operating entities (agricultural and non-agricultural) managed in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
- Intercompany Clearing: Accurately track and bill intercompany machinery usage, custom hire acres, overhead allocations, and "Due To/From" clearing accounts.
- Debt & Line of Credit Tracking: Reconcile monthly bank statements, operating lines of credit (LOC), commercial loans, and equipment notes, ensuring interest and principal payments hit proper GL buckets.
- Asset & Revenue Classification: Maintain clean asset depreciation schedules and properly classify capital transactions (e.g., livestock liquidations, land sales, equipment trade-ins, and non-ag revenue streams).
- Process Leadership: Establish clear document-intake standards and interface directly with our CPA for annual tax preparation.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 3+ years of full-charge bookkeeping or accounting experience, specifically managing multi-entity structures.
- Ag & Business Literacy (Required): Strong working knowledge of agricultural accounting (crop/livestock revenue structures, operating loans, crop share arrangements, equipment financing) along with exposure to general non-ag business accounting.
- Software & Reporting Mastery: Deep proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and experience using reporting platforms like Figured alongside Microsoft Excel to consolidate multi-entity data.
- Communication: Ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining proactive communication with the Office Manager and GM.
- Travel Requirement: Must be willing to travel to our Tribune, KS office two days per month for monthly executive financial review and team alignment ("Report Days"). All travel costs (mileage, meals, lodging if applicable) are fully covered.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive Pay: $25.00 – $38.00 per hour based on experience.
- Health Coverage: Health insurance plan provided.
- Paid Time Off: PTO provided for vacation, personal, and sick time.
- Travel Expense Coverage: Full reimbursement for all company travel, including monthly in-person report days (1-2 days/month).
- Flexibility & Autonomy: Work remotely 95% of the time with a schedule that scales up to 40 hours per week depending on operational cycles and reporting demands.
- Direct Impact: Work directly with the Office Manager and GM, who value clean numbers, clear priorities, and direct communication.
