Job Description
SOKO Aesthetics & Wellness is seeking an experienced, high-caliber Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner (APRN) to help lead and expand our growing functional wellness service line.
At SOKO, our purpose is to transform lives by combining personalized, evidence-informed clinical care with five-star hospitality. We are developing a comprehensive wellness program that looks beyond isolated symptoms and medication management to better understand the interconnected factors influencing each patient’s health.
This role is specifically designed for a practitioner with direct experience in functional, integrative, or lifestyle medicine. The ideal candidate takes a whole-person approach to care, evaluating nutrition, gastrointestinal health, hormones, metabolic function, micronutrient status, sleep, stress, movement, environmental factors, and lifestyle patterns.
Although SOKO currently offers hormone replacement therapy and medical weight management, we are seeking a practitioner who can help patients reach a deeper level of wellness through advanced diagnostic testing, personalized supplement protocols, nutrition counseling, gut-health support, and sustainable lifestyle interventions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Functional Medicine Consultations
Conduct comprehensive functional wellness consultations that evaluate:
- Current symptoms and health concerns
- Complete medical and medication history
- Nutrition and dietary patterns
- Gastrointestinal and digestive health
- Hormonal and reproductive health
- Metabolic health and blood-sugar regulation
- Sleep quality, stress, and recovery
- Physical activity and body composition
- Supplement use and potential nutrient deficiencies
- Environmental, behavioral, and lifestyle contributors
Create individualized, evidence-informed care plans based on the patient’s history, symptoms, laboratory findings, personal goals, and clinical needs.
Help patients understand how multiple systems may contribute to their overall health rather than addressing each symptom in isolation.
2. Advanced Laboratory Testing
Order, review, and interpret standard and advanced laboratory testing, which may include:
- Comprehensive blood chemistry and wellness panels
- Full hormone and thyroid evaluations
- Metabolic and insulin-resistance markers
- Micronutrient and nutritional-deficiency testing
- Inflammatory and cardiovascular-risk markers
- DUTCH hormone and adrenal testing
- Comprehensive stool, microbiome, and gastrointestinal testing
- Food-response or immune-related testing when clinically appropriate
- Additional functional testing based on symptoms and clinical presentation
Translate complex laboratory findings into clear, actionable recommendations for patients.
Use testing thoughtfully and selectively, ensuring that each test has a clinically appropriate purpose and can meaningfully guide the patient’s care plan.
3. Gut Health and Digestive Wellness
Evaluate patients experiencing concerns such as:
- Bloating and abdominal discomfort
- Constipation or diarrhea
- Food-related symptoms
- Reflux and digestive discomfort
- Changes in bowel habits
- Suspected nutrient malabsorption
- Microbiome imbalance
- Persistent fatigue or symptoms potentially associated with gastrointestinal health
Develop personalized gut-health plans that may incorporate nutrition, supplements, lifestyle modifications, appropriate medical evaluation, and advanced gastrointestinal testing.
Recognize symptoms requiring referral to gastroenterology, primary care, or another medical specialist.
4. Personalized Supplement Services
Develop and manage individualized supplement protocols based on clinical history, laboratory findings, nutritional needs, medication use, and patient goals.
Provide clear guidance regarding:
- Product selection and quality
- Appropriate dosing and timing
- Expected duration of use
- Potential medication and supplement interactions
- Possible side effects or contraindications
- Ongoing monitoring and reassessment
- Simplification of overly complex supplement regimens
Evaluate the clinical necessity of current supplements and help patients avoid unnecessary, duplicative, or potentially harmful products.
Coordinate access to professional-grade supplements and monitor adherence and treatment response.
5. Nutrition and Lifestyle Counseling
Provide practical, individualized education related to:
- Protein, fiber, and micronutrient intake
- Blood-sugar stability
- Anti-inflammatory eating patterns
- Gastrointestinal and microbiome support
- Hydration and electrolyte balance
- Healthy body-composition changes
- Preservation of lean muscle
- Meal planning and food quality
- Sleep optimization
- Stress management
- Movement, strength training, and recovery
- Long-term behavioral change
Help patients translate clinical recommendations into realistic routines that are sustainable within their daily lives.
Recognize when a patient would benefit from additional support from a registered dietitian, behavioral health professional, physical therapist, or other specialist.
6. Hormone and Metabolic Health
Evaluate and manage individualized hormone and metabolic wellness plans, including:
- Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy
- Hormone pellets, injections, creams, and troches
- Thyroid and metabolic health evaluations
- Menopause and perimenopause support
- Male hormone optimization
- Insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction
- Body-composition and healthy-aging strategies
Prescribe, titrate, and monitor therapies according to clinical findings, evidence-informed protocols, patient response, and established safety standards.
7. Medical Weight Management
Manage personalized medical weight-management pathways when clinically appropriate.
Responsibilities may include:
- Evaluating eligibility for prescription weight-management medications
- Prescribing and titrating GLP-1 or other appropriate therapies
- Monitoring efficacy, tolerance, side effects, and contraindications
- Supporting nutrition, hydration, bowel health, and lean-muscle preservation
- Evaluating metabolic and hormonal contributors to weight concerns
- Developing maintenance and medication-reduction strategies when appropriate
Approach weight management as part of a broader metabolic and lifestyle plan rather than relying on medication alone.
8. Micronutrient and Wellness Therapies
Evaluate and manage personalized micronutrient and wellness protocols, which may include:
- Vitamin and nutrient injections
- NAD+ protocols
- Micronutrient-repletion plans
- Practitioner-directed supplement programs
- Other evidence-informed wellness therapies adopted by the practice
Ensure that all treatments are clinically appropriate, properly documented, and supported by established safety protocols.
9. Patient Education and Long-Term Care
Build meaningful, long-term relationships with patients through ongoing education, thoughtful follow-up, and collaborative care planning.
Help patients understand:
- Their laboratory findings
- The reasoning behind each recommendation
- What improvements may realistically be expected
- How progress will be measured
- When treatment plans should be reassessed
- Which symptoms require additional medical evaluation
Empower patients to participate actively in their care without making guarantees or overstating the benefits of testing, supplements, medications, or wellness therapies.
10. Documentation and Clinical Operations
Maintain accurate, objective, and timely documentation within SOKO’s electronic health record platform, completing entries during the same business day.
Coordinate with the clinical support team to ensure accurate tracking of:
- Laboratory orders and results
- Advanced testing kits and specimen collection
- Patient follow-up appointments
- Medication and supplement orders
- Refill requests
- Treatment response
- Outstanding clinical concerns
- Referrals and care coordination
Perform Good Faith Exams for applicable SOKO services in accordance with clinic protocols and state requirements.
Collaborate with SOKO’s medical director, nursing team, support staff, laboratories, pharmacies, supplement partners, and outside specialists to maintain safe and coordinated patient care.
