The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students. With a Head Start program, three preschools, 29 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, the district serves a wonderfully diverse mixture of students. A remarkable 62 different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. To serve those students, the district employs approximately 3,650 staff members, including more than 1,800 teachers.
JOB GOAL:
This position has primary responsibility for developing and managing the district’s website. The web manager works as a part of the communications team to promote the district and foster two-way communication in support of overall communications objectives and strategies.

ised The Digital Communications and Web Services is responsible for developing, managing, and enhancing the district’s website and web-based communication tools. This position ensures digital content is accessible, visually effective, and strategically aligned with the district’s communication goals. The Web Specialist works as a member of the Communications team and collaborates across departments to foster two-way communication with internal and external audiences.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and manage the district’s website, intranet site, individual school websites and content management system (CMS), working to increase traffic, promote services, and foster an environment of two-way communication with the public.
- Manage website analytics and reporting dashboards to monitor usage, evaluate performance, and inform content and design improvements
- Collaborate with schools to assess and elevate individual school websites, ensuring consistent branding, usability, and accessibility
- Work in collaboration with Communications Director and Communications specialist to coordinate distribution of information across multiple platforms.
- Ensure all content meets ADA and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and guidelines
- Plan and execute web content strategy to promote services, increase engagement, and support district communication goals
- Set up and maintain secure user login accounts; provide CMS training and support to district departments and staff
- Establish and enforce web design standards, including layout, navigation, typography, imagery, and mobile responsiveness
- Coordinate cross-platform messaging and asset sharing with the Communications team to ensure consistency across the district’s digital channels (e.g., website, social media, newsletters)
- Integrate third-party tools (calendars, forms, news modules, etc.) and maintain proper function and security
- Work with Technology Information Services (TIS) to ensure backend stability, data security, and routine technical maintenance
- Conduct periodic audits of site content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and removal of outdated information Support district social media strategy by embedding feeds and managing website-linked promotions
- Provide ongoing training, documentation, and technical support for decentralized content editors
- Maintain after-hours availability for emergency website updates as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Enhance professional growth and development through networking and collaboration with local and statewide professional organizations for web developers/content managers.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing or related field.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Video and editing skills required.
- Social Media experience required.
- Experience with writing newsletters, marketing campaigns, advertising copy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
- Experience managing website content and using web content management systems (CMS).
Preferred skills:
- Experience in Adobe in Design, Photoshop and Lightroom software preferred.
- Ability to work in a high-stress environment while meeting multiple deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain working relationships with all district staff, media
- personnel, district parents and students, community groups and organizations.
- Ability to proofread prose and graphic materials, as well as, edit the written work of others.
Ability to use good judgement and maintain confidentiality when necessary.

COMMUNICATION / ORGANIZATION : Maintains communication with school personnel,parents/guardians, internal and external customers to enhance cooperative action which willmeet the educational needs of students. Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.
REASONING ABILITY : Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read and analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and protocols. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.
