JOB DUTIES: This is a regional position located in the Imaging Services department of the Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua’i Region, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i. The HHSC Kaua’i Region encompasses Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both designated as critical access hospitals (CAH), as well as the Kaua’i Region Clinics and its affiliated entities.
The Imaging Services department is essential for providing accurate and timely diagnostic imaging to support patient care and treatment decisions. This department offers a wide range of imaging modalities, including X-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, and fluoroscopy, ensuring that clinicians have access to high-quality images for diagnosis and monitoring. The Radiology team is responsible for operating advanced imaging equipment, adhering to safety protocols, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, the department collaborates closely with providers to interpret imaging results, providing critical insights that inform clinical decision-making. By maintaining high standards of quality assurance, patient safety, and technological advancement, the Radiology-Diagnostic/Imaging Services department plays a vital role in enhancing patient outcomes and facilitating effective healthcare delivery.
The Imaging Assistant, functioning at full capacity, is primarily tasked with supporting licensed technologists and specialists in patient-related activities, as well as undertaking additional responsibilities as assigned. This encompasses preparing patients for examinations, transporting patients to and from various departments within the hospital, assisting patients onto examination tables, and aiding in the movement of monitoring equipment, IV pumps, and ancillary devices. The position may require the individual to work rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
This position reports to the Director of Imaging (Region), position number 20896, or their designee.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.
EDUCATION: A high school diploma or the equivalency is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
One (1) year of work experience in a biological, chemical, or medical laboratory or clinic which provided the applicant with some knowledge of general anatomy, clinical procedures, and methods and techniques of handling injured or ill patients.One (1) year of work experience in a health facility such as a hospital or similar medically oriented institution where the primary or basic objective was to assist licensed technologists with patient-related tasks.
DESIRED SKILLS:
Knowledge of: human anatomy and body mechanics; magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, ultrasonography, nuclear medicine, radiography, angiography, and echocardiography; preparing patients for exams.Ability to: read, write, speak and understand simple sentences in English; follow oral and/or written instructions precisely; demonstrate poise and tact in dealing with a wide range of patients with different illnesses and injuries; interact patiently and respectfully with staff, patients and visitors; and maintain records; understand and carry out oral and written instructions, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients and staff; assist in any of the imaging modalities listed.
CERTIFICATION: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Patience, tact, an even temperament in meeting and dealing with others, positive attitude, self-motivated, productive work habits, and a “team player”.
SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED:
Completion of courses in human anatomy such as biology may be substituted for the entry-level experience.One (1) year of work experience as a nurse aide in a clinic or hospital may be substituted for the entry-level experience.Completion of a practical nursing or professional nursing curriculum from an accredited school substitutes for the entry-level experience.
