Full Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The successful candidate must possess work experience in construction safety and/or formal training from an accredited higher education institution in the field of occupational safety, health and environmental and/or work experience in the general industry in the field of occupational safety, health and environmental may substitute for years without construction safety.

The position will assist the project management team with meeting the safety, health, and environmental requirements of the project. The Project Safety Administrator (PSA) will report directly to and is under the direct supervision of the projects Senior Upper Manager and the Safety Administrator.

The PSA will assist the project with conducting daily safety inspections, employee training, near-miss incidents and accident investigations, assure compliance with applicable safety laws and regulations, and maintaining all required safety records and documentation. The PSA will also assist the project with all administrative and clerical support necessary to complete safety-related forms, such as workers’ compensation claim processing and other safety related duties as assigned by the projects Senior Upper Manager and Safety Administrator.

Follows established policies, procedures, and specific instructions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Possess the ability to perform the following with minimum supervision and work independently to accomplish the following activities:

Conduct daily safety inspections, document results, track compliance;
Complete and maintain all forms and documents to adhere to regulatory requirements according to legal guidelines;
Conduct safety meetings, safety orientation and accident prevention training;
conduct near-miss incident, property damage and accident investigations;
Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies;
Ensure subcontractor’s compliance to project safety and regulatory requirements;
Comes to work regularly and on time, follow directions, takes criticism, gets along with co-workers and supervisors, treats co-workers, supervisors and customers with respect and courtesy, and refrains from abusive, insubordinate or violent behavior;
Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law;
Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines;
Outstanding attention to detail and observation abilities; and
Perform other duties as assigned.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES (SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS):

Development and implementation:

Cost containment programs: such as workers’ compensation claim processing and return-to-work program;
Developing Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) or similar documents;
Regulatory agencies inspections;
Project pre-planning of work and safety activities;
Drug testing requirements of the project under the direction and supervision of the Human Resources Manager;
Provide administrative support to the project on safety requirements set forth by the Owner-Controlled Insurance Program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he/she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

1. College Graduate in the Occupational Safety & Health Discipline preferred.

2. Ability to type accurately using office equipment to complete required reports.

3. Construction safety experience preferred.

4. Completed or have the ability to complete the OSHA 10-Hour and 30-Hour Course within six months from the date of hire.

5. Be accepted by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals for the following industry designations, such as Construction Safety and Health Technician (CHST), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) within the first year of employment.

6. Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels of employees and outside contacts.

7. Working knowledge of personal computer applications (spreadsheet, word processing and database) such as Microsoft Office: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

8. Possess a valid and current drivers license, automobile insurance, clean traffic abstract, and provide own transportation.
