Full Job Description

Avondale House is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency that provides services to individuals with autism including a day program for adults, where clients receive training in daily living skills and pre-vocational activities and three group homes for adults unable to live in their own home.

We have full-time and part-time positions working as a Direct Support Professional caring for participants of our various programs within Avondale House. Shift times vary and include days, afternoons/evenings, overnights and weekends. Full-time positions include competitive benefits. Our need as of 8/10/26 is individuals available to work Saturday & Sunday from 8am-8pm or Saturday & Sunday from 8pm-8am (sleep and awake shifts).

Job Duties:

May assist participants with daily living skills, social skills and/or academic tasks.
Drives and/or accompanies participants to community based activities/appointments as needed.
Works with other staff to ensure safety, cleanliness, and well being of participants in our programs.
Keeps participants on task and redirects focus.
Shows compassion, builds rapport and encourages participants in order for them to develop into their full potential.
Works with staff throughout Avondale House to meet the needs of each participant.

Requirements:

High school diploma or GED.
Experience working with autistic individuals preferred.
Experience working with intellectually disabled individuals required.
Patient, authoritative personality.
Current CPR Certification.
Valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to implement non-violent crisis intervention.
Lifting/Moving up to 50 lbs and lifting moving up to 100 plus lbs with assistance.
Ability to stand on your feet for 2-3 hours at a time.
Stooping, kneeling, pushing and pulling may be required in this position.
Must be capable of physically restraining clients if necessary.
Must be able to handle situations that may be stressful at times.
