Full Job Description

Position Summary: The Verification Pharmacist is responsible for the final review and release of prescription orders, ensuring accuracy, clinical appropriateness, and full compliance with all regulatory and internal standards. This role operates in a high-volume environment and is accountable for maintaining verification quality, productivity, and timely order processing. The Verification Pharmacist applies clinical judgment to identify and resolve discrepancies, supports workflow efficiency, and works closely with pharmacy technicians and prescribers to ensure prescriptions are complete, appropriate, and ready for fulfillment. This role plays a critical part in maintaining patient safety, operational performance, and overall service reliability.

Essential Functions:

Performs final verification of prescription orders, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and full compliance with all regulatory and internal quality standards.
Evaluates prescriptions for clinical appropriateness, including dosing, drug interactions, and therapeutic accuracy, and takes action to resolve any concerns.
Maintains expected verification volume, accuracy, and error resolution metrics within a high-volume, time-sensitive environment.
Ensures prescriptions are verified and released within established turnaround times to support delivery and operational commitments.
Supports workflow efficiency by coordinating with pharmacy technicians and addressing bottlenecks that impact order progression.
Communicates directly with prescribers to resolve discrepancies, clarify intent, and ensure prescriptions meet all requirements prior to verification.
Provides medication counseling when required, ensuring clear, accurate, and compliant communication.
Identifies, investigates, and documents errors, discrepancies, and quality concerns, ensuring appropriate follow-through and resolution.
Maintains compliance with all federal and state regulatory requirements, including Texas State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, and FDA standards.
Ensures accuracy and completeness of all documentation related to verification and regulatory compliance.
Supports daily operations by addressing workflow issues, prioritizing workload, and ensuring continuity of service.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s (BPharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited program required.
Active Pharmacist license in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required.
Minimum of 1–2 years of pharmacy experience preferred, with experience in high-volume or mail-order pharmacy environments preferred.
Strong knowledge of pharmacy regulations, medication safety principles, and prescription verification processes.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with pharmacy staff and prescribers.
Ability to apply clinical judgment and make appropriate decisions within established guidelines.
Experience with pharmacy systems, including Lifefile, preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred.
