Organizes trauma services and systems in collaboration with the Emergency Department and Trauma Program leadership. Collaborates with internal and external constituents in the coordination and delivery of trauma care. Coordinates educational, clinical, research, administrative and outreach activities of the trauma program. Maintains records, including the trauma registry data.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

3. *Responsible for communicating data results and information with key stakeholders, educating providers, staff, patients, emergency personnel, providers from external facilities, and the community on relevant program topics.
4. Collaborates effectively with staff, providers, Trauma Program and Emergency Department leadership and other members of leadership on methods to meet and maintain regulations and standards related to patient care.
5. *Develops and maintains processes to accomplish collecting, coding, scoring, and developing processes for validation of trauma data and submission in trauma registry.

7. *Utilizes the registry information to facilitate performance improvement, trend reports, and research while maintaining confidentiality.
8. *Participates in performance improvement by monitoring clinical outcomes and system issues related to quality-of-care delivery and by developing quality filters, audits, and case reviews as well as identifying trends.
9. Collaborates with the Emergency Department and Trauma Program leadership to support and maintain trauma operations, personnel involved, and financial aspects of the trauma program as appropriate for trauma level.
10. *Represents the trauma program on hospital committees and statewide coordinator committees to foster and enhance optimal trauma care, provision, and management.
11. *Serves as an internal resource for staff in all departments as well as an extended liaison for Emergency Medical Services.
12. *Develops the Trauma program, ensures compliance with certification and designation requirements, acquires, and maintains certification and designation levels agreed upon by the appropriate medical staff leaders, senior leadership, and the board of managers.
13. *Analyzes information abstracted to identify areas of improvement needed and develops and facilitates the implementation of performance improvement action plans.
14. *Proactively communicates data results and information with key stakeholders.
15. Educates providers, staff, patients, emergency personal, providers from external facilities, and the community on relevant trauma related topics.
16. Treats patients, staff, and families with respect and dignity, and routinely evaluates the effectiveness of educational programs offered.
17. Responsible for maintaining expert level knowledge of patient care practices in applicable departments, and for providing direct patient care when needed.
18. Acts as a leader of the department, supporting the manager and other members of leadership as a liaison with patients, physicians, and employees to facilitate communication, increase satisfaction, and ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
19. Develops and reviews policies and procedures as assigned. Provides education to staff regarding process and policy updates.
20. Participates in and fosters culture of teamwork and respect throughout the department, engaging effectively with all stakeholders, e.g., physicians, staff, outside contractors, and the people served.
21. Provides leadership and mentorship in the development of staff in relation to trauma topic and program.
22. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
23. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Nebraska required or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Graduate from an accredited school of nursing required. Bachelor’s degree in nursing required, master’s degree in nursing or another applicable field preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of intensive care or emergency department nursing experience is required. Additional two (2) years of experience in an education role or formal training in education preferred. Experience with data collection, input, and analysis preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
Trauma Nursing Course Certified (TNCC) required.
